Okay first of all, do you think that Aragorn and Faramir are alike?
Personaly I think that they were alike in most ways. Both were skilled fighters, humble, noble, nice (for the most part), had level heads on their shoulders, willing to die for others if need be, and had a certain insight into other people. Also they both had something that they were desperate to gain by doing things in the war of the ring...for Faramir it was the love and respect of his father and for Aragorn it was the love of his life (her father's permission...Arwen) However I think that Faramir showed more respect towards Eowyn and treated her better over all than Aragorn did. On the other hand Aragorn might have had more knowledge of the woods and battle from being a ranger than what Faramir did...though I really have no proof of that.
Secondly who do you prefer? My pick of the two would definately be Faramir. I liked Aragorn most of the time...when he would talk to Eowyn it allmost seemed as though he was talking down to her and he never actualy Told Eowyn that he was taken...just made her feel like dirt rather...those were mainly the times that I would dislike Araorn. Other than that though I liked him the majority of the time. (shrugs) I prefer Faramir. He may be my second favorite out of the fellows though. So I might be a bit biased.

They're alike, and not. They have different traits that would stand out to me. However, they're both rugged, strong men who will go for what they want to do, and are willing to sacrifice themselves to do it. I think Faramir is more of a person I'd like, though, because of his nature, he seems like a more caring guy to me. But even though they're alike, their personalities are a lot different and traits in both of them that are things I like.

Well, before you go on about Faramir treating Éowyn better, remember that Faramir was in love with Éowyn, whereas Aragorn wasn't. That does change how a person reacts to another.

^ It does, but only to some extent. Even if one leaves Eowyn out of the picture, in my mind Faramir stands higher than Aragorn because of different character traits that I value more than a few of those that Aragorn has.

I can't decide between Aragorn and Faramir. They do have some things in common, but they are also a lot different from each other. I agree with Aerandir, you can't really say that Aragorn treats Eowyn better than Faramir does, e.g. Aragorn tells Eowyn that he has wished her luck since he first saw her. Also, as Aerandir said, Faramir was in love with Eowayn whereas Aragorn wasn't. That changes the way you treat a person a lot I think. Of course you can say that you like Faramir better because he has other character traits. Aragorn and Faramir are different from each other, but they are also alike, e.g. both of them resist the temptation of the ring (which I think is very important) and they are both modest persons (Faramir doesn't hate his brother even though Denethor treats him better than Faramir and Aragorn doesn't think he deserves to be the king of Gondor).

Personally, I've always seen Faramir as a lesser version of Aragorn. Always. As close to being like Aragorn as a non-pure-blooded man can come. So....while I like both characters a lot, I like Aragorn better.

I personally prefer Faramir out of the two. I think that they have some similar character traits, but Faramir struck me as the one who'd rather sit by a fire reading than practicing his fighting skills. (That would be why he's my favorite LOTR male.) Aragorn is the perfect King. Faramir, I imagine, makes an excellent Prince of Ithilien; he strikes me as the sort who'd be perfectly happy working under someone else, as he ended up doing, but who would take charge if a situation called for it.

Well, I always thought Faramir was impulsive and Aragorn tended to think things out more. Faramir didn't really think as much as Aragorn, but it's true that they were both excellent fighters and noble people.

I think it is impossible to say whether two people are alike or not. They both have their respective personalities and even their upbringings, which were wholly different, have some affect on their adult lives as well and what choices they make.

Aragorn was a born leader. He basically had his role as future king thrust upon him. He grew up loved by a mother, surrogate father, and his Elven brothers. He aimed high in life and by the end of RotK was ready to accept his role as King.

Faramir was overshadowed by his older brother much of his life and was unloved by his father for many reasons. This sort of oppression made him out to be a quiet adult, one more fit for being head of a household than leader of a kingdom.

Both, however, were very brave men, and went forth to do good even if it meant dire consequences for themselves.

In the fact that both were noble men of Dunedain blood lineage, they were alike. But Aragorn was an only child in the direct male lineage of Elendil whereas Faramir was the second-born of a lesser, likely somewhat mingled line made them different. I think Faramir showed this nobility in the subtle ways as Frodo noticed at Henneth Annun, especially as opposed to how he saw Boromir.



I prefer them both in their respective roles, but will lean toward Faramir as he doesn't question Aragorn's kingship and is content to take a secondary role, which was a sort of role he was used to when Boromir was alive. Dramatic movie death scene aside, If Boromir had become Steward, I doubt he would so agreeably step aside to Aragorn's taking the kingship of Gondor.

So yeah, I prefer Faramir because he had choices to make, and he made them correctly, whereas Aragorn was more destiny driven. Besides, Faramir ends up marrying the hot blonde and living with her in one of the most beautiful parts of Middle Earth!

From the perspective of their life... I spose they were alike in many ways. however... when it comes to their personalities I think they were greatly different. (going by the actors in the movies) I can't really dsay specifics but I never would think to compare the two personalities... they just don't seem to be comparable. *shrugs* At least thats the wayi see it.

They both have elements of the greatness of their ancestry and both are wise and up hold strong morals. But their personalities are quite different. Although saying that in ways they are both out casts. Strider as the ranger and coming from the outside to reclaim the throne and Faramir being the younger brother of Boromir and feeling a lesser man in the eyes of his father, and although revered by many of the people of Gondor this had some affect on him and obviously his friendship with Gandalf didn't help him in regards to his father.
