| Post subject: | The Valar decieved? |
I was just skimming over the first parts of the book that I had read one more in my mind and I just never did quite understand how the Valar were decieved by Melkor once he was let out after being sentance to (how ever many years it was) the first time. The book says he walked amoung them and sewed seeds of discontent amoung the elves who then lived witht he Valar.... so why didn't the elves say something? I'm just curious what other people's thoughts about this are. |

Oooh, I like the avvy/sig set, Aer. ^_^ I have to agree with your point--I'm sure Morgoth, being a Vala, would know which Elves were susceptible to his seeds of doubt and which weren't, so he wouldn't have to worry about them spilling their guts to the Valar about him subverting their rule. |

Not only this; Morgoth didnt go around with a "Im a bad guy spreading lies, please disregard and or report me to the authorities" sticker attached to him.. He started off, not tell lies, but half truths to the noldor, and they being willing to listen listened; saw the truth rather than deception, and trusted him, and the cycle began. The Noldor "bitterly repented of the folly of their open ears in those days." As for the valar being decieved, well Ulmo and Tulkas both knew he wouldnt change; theres a bit where its said tulkas clenched his fists whenhe saw him, he knew his intent yet was bound by his loyalties to Manwe and the law.As for Manwe; well, he didnt know evil from the beginning; I spose you could say he looked for the good and overlooked it. |
