We've got one of those editions that have all three books combined, not sure which edition it is, but yeah, I did read all of the books in that amount of time

I personally like to read books in one sitting, or as few sittings as possible. I don't like to be jolted out of my reading unless it's absolutely necessary [or life gets in the way]. With Tolkien's works though, I find his separation of sections reasonable and easy to follow/pick up after breaks. But it seems to be the most intense reading experience when you digest something all at once!

Well even though it will make me feel old & even more out of place I will still answer. I read books for 1st time at age of 42 as I was not a fan until I was 41 yrs old. The more I have frequented this forum, especially since The Hobbit came out, I have realized that most of you are ALOT younger than me & most are female, as I am guessing alot of you are about same age as my 19 yr old daughter. But I love to read the posts made as this is only place I have found people that love the stories of Middle Earth like I do. I just cant seem to find good talk about LOTR anywhere & only have 1 friend thats read the books & he can only take so much of my desire to talk LOTR nonstop lol, so it is nice to be able to come here & find that same love I have for the story. Well I probably rambled on too much about age difference, but I may be old compared to most of you young ladies & gents but I tear up as quick as anybody when thinking of the deaths of Aragorn & Arwen. Lol Have a nice day!

To look at that I have read LotR only a little more than three years ago ^^ So I feel really young among you, not mention the older members who know Tolkien as well as their own mother ^^

Ha I'm the same age as your daughter, Most Precious Gollum - I wish my parents were as interested in LotR as I was!
Moist, I think you and I are the same age...and I read LotR six years ago, so I definitely have plenty of more rereads to go. There are several active members who are in the 11-13 age range I've noticed, so they're the really young ones! Reminds me of myself not too long ago, when the LotR fever was really high. ^^

Yes, we are both 19 ^^ And yes, I noticed few really young members too - I feel as young as them though. I am on massive reading spree and I am reading as crazy and should re-read the Tolkien books since I joined this board and need to remind some things.
It's great to see that people younger than me are reading LotR, I don't know like ANYONE who read LotR besides my mother and sister. Most people from my family are "bleeh" on Tolkien. I tried to convince my cousins (they are 13) and they said it's stupid book.

None of my close friends have read Tolkien, though most have seen the films. T___T I have no one in real life to share my passion with. Except for you guys! I remember how people went crazy about wanting to read the books when the movies started coming out. I remember the queuing outside the theater at midnight to see the world premiere. Man, that was epic on a whole different level.

I remember that hype but I was very little then I prefer the current calm attitude. Of course I was whole for the movies but I haven't read the books yet so I felt incomplete ^^

I liked the craze then. I was at the right age for it. Now I'd still enjoy it, but probably just get annoyed with all the screaming and scrambling people. xD

That is funny you say that about your parents as the situation was vice-versa in our home since my daughter thought I was insane for awhile after I become a LOTR fan...... but as of about 2 months ago my daughter has been converted! She decided to watch the movies with me & loved them so much she watched them again....she hasnt read the books yet but Im not pushing the issue as I am thrilled now that I can say things in the house like "we wants it, we needs it, must have the precious" and she laughs instead of looking at me like im insane lol Bellatrix wrote: When the LotR fever was everywhere it was EPIC! I have thought about this many times & always thinking how freaking awesome it would have been to be a fan at the time. At least I got a taste of it with The Hobbit as it is very nice walking thru stores & seeing things about the Hobbit all around

A lot of school classes when I was young would choose a book for the class to study, some of the classes chose the Hobbit but mine chose "Of Mice & Men"

No, she was frequent guest of the libraries. She can't even count how many books she has read. And Lord of the Rings was one of them, a library treasure
