When I reread LotR for the second time, I noticed a marked difference in Aragorn's behavior depending on the role he played in the story. Just wondered which version you guys liked best!

I think I like Aragorn son of Arathorn the best. It's the perfect balance between a rugged ranger and an ultra powerful king.

I always liked Strider. The nomadic life and Ranger's life always appealed to me for some reason. It's a survivalist and all that fun stuff. :D

I've always found the Strider aspect of his personality to be the most well rounded, and most comfortable for the character himself.

When he was forced into his role of Aragorn, son of Arathorn, at the Council of Elrond, he seemed to flounder somewhat, although he gradually came to accept the necessity of his assuming the role of Commander-in-Chief in the War of the Ring.

For me the least compelling role was as Elessar Telcontar. I'm not sure why, but it didn't resonate with me as much.

*nods*

Yeah, I would agree. I always felt like Strider was who Aragorn was really most comfortably being.

I voted Strider, though I could have voted Aragorn.

I like Strider the Ranger as told in the books. The rugged rogue Chieftain of the Rangers, forgotten Dunedain of the North. This kept his identity as Aragorn son of Arathorn from the many spies of the Dark Lord of Mordor. I could have chosen Aragorn as I really liked him as he changed during his epic struggle with Sauron via the Palantiri. I saw him emerge from that as Aragorn, stressed and somewhat aged, but victorious and proud to have publicly proclaimed his heritage as heir of the throne of Arnor and Gondor. He went on to show his mettle before everyone all the way through the war to the downfall of Mordor. After he became King Elessar Telcontar, there is much less known of him as a person other than he married Arwen, his first crush, who he banged a lot and she had a son and allegedly a few daughters. It is said he was a great King and war veteran who ordered the realm, and there is a line about he riding to war on the reaches of the realm with Eomer, and went and stayed in the north at times, but it is all vague summary.
