At the risk of sounding snooty, I think of them still as one book.
But, if called on I have to say Two Towers is my favourite as it introduces my favourite people...the Rohirrim.

Return of the King, even though it is the saddest, most bittersweet out of the books in the trilogy. I love it becuase it is the end of all the suffering and loss. There is joy and happiness at te end, no matter how bittersweet it is, I love it anyway!

I'd say The Two Towers. I'm even sure why now, I just really, really enjoyed it. I guess because I was familiar with the characters ... I seem to remember FOTR seeming to get off to a kind of slow start (I don't notice it rereading it now) and ROTK's sadder, I guess.

FotR is my favourite. Maybe because it's the first book and due to FotR I completely fall in love with the books.
I first saw the FotR movie (almost one year ago now) and it took some time before I got the chance to watch TTT and RotK. In this time I started reading FotR and it was a wonderful experience. I can remember the taste of the tea I was drinking while reading.. I can remember the music I was listening to. It was like a dream.

All the three but there should be a tragic end
But well ... I dunno - LotR is one book and I can't talk about the three books ... Love them all

Ugh, this kind of question is always difficult to answer. They're all so well written and flow together, it's really just all one book.
But I'd vote for FotR, because it's the book that draws you into the land of Middle Earth, the entire quest.

Heheh, I think of it as one book in 6 different parts... but no, I love Return of the King the best. I love the HoH scene, the Mouth of Sauron (when he started using 'thee' and stuff, he immediately became my favorite baddie), and I especially love the Scouring of the Shire. It's one of the only parts that I really like that takes place in Hobbiton because the Hobbits show some backbone... and the description of Lobelia using her umbrella always amuses me.
I do also love Beregond, Bergil, and Iorhael. And I LOVE the Rangers, and the twins. Halbarad is one that I love with all my heart... much love to him. The Stone of Erech scene is brilliant, and, naturally, the Cracks of Doom is... wow.
I like the ROTK book better than the movie, actually. I can stay completely within the book at all parts, while with the movies I can only really pay attention when Aragorn is around or people are dying (.... stop looking at me like that). But the book has my complete attention all the way through.

I would say FotR....just so much information....opening the door to middle earth...plus I love the begining of the story the hobbits and how it all starts.
I do enjoy all the books though...

I don't know. I love FOTR because that one has the most pages, but I also like it because it is so sweet with the hobbits.
But TTT and ROTK are also great, because then the story gets in a speed with havy parts and also tragic parts...
