I found some really good paintings of the Valar. My favourite one is the painting of Varda! |

They were well drawn, but for the females I really can't say I liked them because of a distinct lack of clothing. Rather...disturbing. I hate how many artists think that to make them exotic and beautiful they have to be nearly naked... ![]() |

Thank you for the link. It's so hard to picture the Valar.... I like the attempts shown here and Varda's gonna be my favorite too!! |

They are great! I have seen them before (on the origonaly website of Mikel Janin) but never thought of those of Varda and Yavanna as exotic... But i guess there is something to it. |

![]() Well, I didn't really like Yavanna's lack of clothing, but I love how the dirt is on her face. Very 'earthy'. Also if you look closely in Yavanna's background, there is an Ent behind her. |

Varda, was painted beautifully.........I like the way it was painted in the dark. I didn't exactly understand the Ulmo painting........it was just the ocean......Ulmo was the water Vala or whatever. Orome reminds me of some midevil knight....... Morgoth was really creepy he sent a chill up my spine......ughhhhhhhh! Manwe reminds me of an ancient greek......or a greek god. Okay........it bothers me that Yvanna is practically half naked in that painting........why do painters always depict females in there paintings half naked.......it bothers me. |

If they were representing a human or elf they are very well drawn but for a Valar; they don't look quite God like, they look to human. |

Not liking the painting of Orome too much...looks too human for me... somehow I think he ought to look more impressive, more... SUPER-human... |

Very good paintings but why do women always have to be half naked? And they look a bit human indeed, but how can you make them more as gods? I try it sometimes myself, but it's really hard. |

I think Yavanna was one of my favorite valar. Well, not so much my favorite, but I liked her story. But I never really pictured her that way...ah well. |

No certainly Yavanna shouldn't look like that... I always saw her as very ethereal and pure, rather than a scruffy huntress-looking woman... |

The only painting I really liked of the Valar that I've seen anywhere was in the illustrated copy of The Silmarillion, when Ulmo rises from the waters in a very Poseidon-like way, with the trident... |

In the Silmarillion, it said that he hardly took on a form, or something like that. Quote: I always saw her as very ethereal and pure, rather than a scruffy huntress-looking woman... So did I. I'm not sure about this one, but I think that they should have made him more 'built' bodywise. |
