what was the lament for Boromir again? I can't seem to remember it :duh:

It was sung by Aragorn and Legolas after they put Boromir's body in the boat and send it down the falls...

I have a few that I really like,

"The road goes ever on and on, down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the road has gone, and I must follow if I can,
pursuing it with weary feet, until it joins some larger way,
where many paths and errands meet.
And wither then? I cannot Say."

Also Sam and Pippin,

"Ho! Ho! Ho! To the bottle I go
To heal my heart and drown my woe.
Rain may fall and wind may blow,
And many miles be still to go,
But under a tall tree I will lie,
And let the clouds go sailing by."

Aragorn,

"Gondor! Gondor, between the mountains and the sea!
West wind blew there; the light upon the silver tree
Fell like bright rain in gardens of the Kings of old.
O proud walls! White towers! O winged crown and throne of gold!
O Gondor, Gondor! Shall men behold the silver tree,
Or west wind blow again between the mountains and the sea?"

Somehow the songs of the Hobbits can be the saddest of all... the Old Walking Song with the 'new road or a secret gate...' :'( :'(

Pippins song to Denethor:

Home is behind the World ahead
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadow to the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight
Mist and Shadow, Cloud and shade
Hope shall fade
Hope shall fade

^thanks so much! I was trying to find the words, but I couldn't. Did you find them in the books? I can't really hear Pippin in the song - I keep the volume of my TV down low as to not disturb other occupants. :bye2:

"Tall ships and tall kings
three times three,
what brought they from
across the foundered sea?
Seven stars and seven stones
and one white tree."

I don't know if that's the exact rhyme but I love it, as it tells the coming of Elendil to Middle-earth from Numenor.

Quote:
I sit beside the fire and think
of all that I have seen,
of meadow-flowers and butterflies
in summers that have been;

Of yellow leaves and gossamer
in autumns that there were,
with morning mist and silver sun
and wind upon my hair.

I sit beside the fire and think
of how the world will be
when winter comes without a spring
that I shall ever see.

For still there are so many things
that I have never seen:
in every wood and every spring
there is a different green.

I sit beside the fire and think
of people long ago,
and people who will see a world
that I shall never know.

But all the while I sit and think
of times there were before,
I listen for returning feet
and voices at the door.

That's what I meant by Bilbo's Last Song, but I think I got the name wrong. :P I have a lovely musical arrangement for it, maybe I'll record it sometime, it's so pretty.

I didn't like the way they changed that for the movie!!! It was such a great song in the book, I have some wonderful music for that, too!

The Fall of GilGalad

O Gil-galad i Edhelchír
dim linnar i thelegain:
Im Belegaer a Hithaeglir
Aran ardh vethed vain a lain.

Gariel maegech Gil-galad,
Thôl palan-gennen, ann-vegil;
A giliath arnoediad
Tann thann dîn be genedril.

Dan io-anann os si gwannant
A mas, ú-bedir ithronath;
An gîl dîn na-dúath di-dhant,

My 2 favorite poems are:

Oliphaunt

Grey as a mouse,
Big as a house,
Nose like a snake,
I make the earth shake,
As I tramp through the grass;
Trees crack as I pass.
With horns in my mouth
I walk in the South,
Flapping big ears.
Beyond count of years
I stump round and round,
Never lie on the ground,
Not even to die.
Oliphaut am I
Biggest of all,
Huge, old, and tall.
If ever you'd met me
You wouldn't forget me,
If you never do,
You won't think I'm true;
But old Oliphaunt am I,
And I never lie.

and

Cat

The fat cat on the mat
may seem to dream
of nice mice that suffice
for him, or cream;
but he free, maybe,
walks in thought
unbowed, proud, where loud
roared and fought
his kin, lean and slim,
or deep in den
in the East feasted on beasts
and tender men.
The giant lion with iron
claw in paw,
and huge ruthless tooth
in gory jaw;
the pard dark-starred,
fleet upon feet,
that oft soft from aloft
leaps upon his meat
where woods loom in gloom --
far now they be,
fierce and free,
and tamed is he;
but fat cat on the mat
kept as a pet
he does not forget.
