People think what the Christians say. God's existence in beyond time and space. The same is with Eru. But there is something we have to pay attention. Prof. Tolkien hated when people were saying that Eru is for Arda the same as the Christian god.

I don't think Iluvatar was really "created". I think he's kind of always been there, kind of like God, if you want to put it into a real world sense.

This is something very hard for the human mind to comprehend. For us something is always created by something else, but sometimes it just doesn't work that way. Iluvatar does not abide by our laws, he is in his own time and world almost.

Why isn't Iluvatar ever mentioned in the Lord of the Rings, though. Seeing as he is the Creater, wouldn't he get some sort of reverence?

Well... forever is a very long time. And nothing lasts forever.

You know, I started a philosophical discussion. I feel so proud of myself. :D lol

He does get some mention doesn't he? He must, probably passing mention. But yeah. YOu don't just create gods, lol. They are just there. And that's how it is. It unexplainable really. And beside, why do we have to know? That's what's so weird about humans. We can't stand not knowing something.

Anyway, off topic, lol. :D

Or... there could be many different levels of creators and creations. Now that's a confusing thought. :P

You still need a first cause though that wasn't created, which is Iluvatar in Middle Earth. If you don't have that you would keep needing another creator and another creator to have created that creater and so on :p

Well it is very different from Christianty in Middle-earth. Ilúvatar seems more like a myth or legend to the people in ME - I'm not saying they don't think he exists it's just that they don't seem to think of him as having any bearing on their lives. You can see this is LotR where he's at least hardly mentioned.
