Who do you guys think would be the ruler of Rivendell and the remaining Elves in Middle Earth? Cirdan, Elrond, Celeborn, and Galadriel are all gone. I think it all depends on whether Elladan and/or Elrohir stayed, because if they left, then the rule would actually pass to the High King of Gondor and Arnor, since he would be descended from Elrond, and if Elladan and Elrohir were gone, then....he'd be the heir. However, it seems not everyone agrees with this, so....who do you think was the ruler of Rivendell and the Elves of Middle Earth (not counting Mirkwood and all) in the Fourth Age?

I think they didn't have a great ruler anymore, because most of the elves were gone except the Wood Elves, whose ruler was Thranduil. Perhaps there were small groups of elves who had a leader, but I don't think that there was a great lord or so.

But Rivendell was still populated, and the Grey Havens.

I don't think so - much of Rivendell's power was upheld by the Rings of Power, and with their power diminished, I think it would just fade away, much in the same way Lorien would, once Elrond, Galadriel and Cirdan were gone - I think even the Havens would have faded eventually.

But....they would still have been the centers of Elven civilization outside of Eryn Lasgalen.

Celeborn didn't leave. I know he was there at the grey havens in the movie, but it isn't all that romantic according to Tolkien. What happened to him, Tolkien wrote two different stories.. In one, he says that Celeborn ruled over lothlorien still. But Tolkien did wrote in his letters, he stayed with Elladan and Elrohir in Rivendell. So there is much discussion around him. A long time passed inbetween Tolkien wrote those seperate stories.

I've read that in the end he also went to Valinor, long after Galadriel had passed.

Yeah, Celeborn did go into Valinor eventually, Eyalan. He left Lothlorien, went to Rivendell where Elladan and Elrohir were ruling, and then eventually went to Valinor.

So I think they didn't have a great lord anymore (except the Wood Elves of course)...

But for there would still be a Lord in Rivendell, so who do you guys think that would be? I think it'd pass to Elardion after Elladan and Elrohir went into the West, or, if one of them had a son, the rule would pass to him.

yes, that would be very likely... I couldn't think of anyone else, because I can't imagine Thranduil being the lord of Rivendell

I do not believe that many Elves stayed in Middle-Earth after the Downfall of Sauron. After all their tima had passed and time of Men had come.

I found proof. I can't remember where - it was in the Appendices of Lord of the Rings I think, but SOMEWHERE it says that at some point someone (possibly Celeborn) went to visit the Sons of Elrond in Rivendell. So Elrond's sons obviously did stay in Middle-Earth, though i have no doubt that eventually even the Silvan elves would have left Middle-Earth.
