I've been hearing rumors that Peter Jackson is going to make the Hobbit into a two part movie. Is this true? Or is the whole movie coming out in December?

It's actually going to be a 3-part movie, and the first part will indeed be coming out in December. Then we'll have to wait another year for the second movie, and the third movie will come out in June/July 2014, if I'm correct.

Lhun's right - Peter Jackson confirmed the 3-part movie on Facebook a while back. I think it's mainly a money-making scheme, but it should still be better than the average movie.

I think these films might be a bit slow since they are stretching it out into three films but I could be wrong.
Also a question Lord Of The Rings was written after The Hobbit but why were the films made ten years earlier?

Actually, the original plan was to film The Hobbit first, but because of copywrite problems, Jackson had to content himself with the Lord of the Rings. I read an article on it just the other day, let me see if I can find it... EDIT: It's quite long, but it is a rather detailed article on the film's long and complicated history. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/the-hobbit-peter-jackson-warner-bros-1-billion-79301

(^ Oh that Disney Robin Hood banner is so cute!!! love it!)
Wow, three films now! Last I heard it was only two. I hope it doesnt make the movie feel long and stretched thin, its not that big of a book! But I have confidence in Jackson, so I'm 99% sure it'll be alright.

I don't think it's so unusual so have filmed LotR first, since it is the larger and better known work. Most people consider The Hobbit to be the prelude to LotR. (Though I have met nit-picky people who insist that since it was, indeed, written before LotR, that makes LotR technically the sequel to The Hobbit. ) But, getting back to all the Hobbit movies, remember that the three movies will not only include the plot of The Hobbit, but also extra scenes and details in Tolkien's timeline that set up the events of LotR. We had a pretty long discussion about it here when the news first broke.

Ok, I missed all that, makes perfect sense now! Alright, I'm now 100% positive three movies will be great.

I cant complain! (I still say they need a Middle Earth theme park ) I cant wait for the movie, and I've only seen one short little trailer in the theater. It was like a teaser trailer. My younger brother will probably want to see it, since he just read the book, and is actually almost done with LotR now.

I think it just depends on the person's take on The Hobbit.
