Bit spoilered, might want to watch before reading this

I'm having kind of mixed feelings after watching it once. My first impression of Mirkwood was very good: it looks like a mix between the architectural styles of Rivendell and Lothlorien, situated in an autumn forest. Thranduil also looked nice, and it was nice to hear him talk for a bit But what's wrong with Legolas? He looks kind of fake, like he's had a face lift or something...

And still no speaking Smaug! But at least a glimpse of Smaug, which looked quite good. I'm glad he isn't one of those over the top dragons, he actually looks very lizard-like in my humble, by no means reptile-expert opinion.

I might have to see it a few more times before forming a final opinion though

^ I agree--Mirkwood looks excellent, but... Legolas looks a bit alien-babydoll. It's a bit jarring.

What I like about Smaug is that he looks like Alan Lee's Smaug, the one that's on the cover of the book my mommy read to me when I was five years old. Therefore I'm happy.

And this post wouldn't be complete if I didn't confess that I'm liking Tauriel more and more. I know people are going to be quick to say "Mary Sue," but from what little the trailer has of her, I approve.

I liked it a lot...I am very excited to finally have it here! I enjoyed hearing Thranduil's voice; I'd been wondering about it. And I loved all the Elves, especially Tauriel...although what's up with the Elves above the river as the Dwarves escape? That didn't happen in the book. And Legolas' voice... I didn't notice much about his face, but I'll go back and look at it later...

I loved the trailer but to be honest I thought Peter Jackson was not even going to give us a glimpse of Smaug so that was a suprise to me. And seeing that we got us a look at Smaug I seriously doubt we get to hear his voice until the movie comes out because the conversation between Smaug & Bilbo is so epic in the book, so I just think PJ keeps the voice silent is my guess.

Whew, now that that is out of my system...

I agree with Shadowcat, I am happy that the Smaug looks similar to Alan Lee's version. I also like that he looks more realistic, more like a lizard (after all, that's what dragons are! Or would be...).

I am liking Tauriel as well, but everyone I've watched this trailer with thought she was Arwen! Legolas does look a little weird... It looks like he's wearing eye liner, which was odd! Maybe it was just the angle/lighting/etc.

Thranduil looks AWESOME!! The crown totally works, and the Lothlorien/Rivendell architectural mash-up for the halls of Mirkwood are awesome! Epic!!

Interesting turn having the elves aware of the dwarves escape (as evidenced by them ninja-shooting at them out of the trees)... That will definitely contribute to the tensions in the third movie/battle of five armies.

So many thoughts. not enough words.

Isn't the guy who plays Tranduil around the same age as Orlando Bloom? I thought Legolas was just getting a cameo too.

Yeaup gotta agree with whoever said Thranduil and Legolas look amazing father and son
But ugh. Legolas. What happened to him????
His eyes are wrong and his face looks faakkeee
...I wish he looked like the LoTR Legolas

But...the trailer is out today!!! Havent had time to watch the teaser yet actually...

I don't see any massive issues with Legolas in this. I mean, the actor has gotten a bit older, it only seems logical that they might need to help him out with looking all young and immortal-ish again. And regardless of how they do it, it will make him look a bit different than in the first film. That's unavoidable. I loved the trailer, actually, and thought not only the footage but the music was absolutely stunning.

And, the Legolas thing, even though I haven't seen it, I agree with Bellatrix. Orlando Bloom has aged since LotR, he's not going to look exactly the same.
