It's soo unfortunate that so many good scenes were missed out of FOTR. It's a real shame. I know they were missed out for the obvious reason of time shortage, but I really believe that with the extra scenes the movie would have been so much better. It was a shame about the fact that they missed Tom Bombadil out especially! He is such a great charcter and i believe he has great value within the tale. The scenes with the Barrow-Wights should have been put in also i believe, they would have made things so much more interesting, and the mini spiders etc. If any of you have played the fellowship of the ring game, you'll see what i mean by how muchg more interesting the movie could have been with those bits in, I love the movie as it is, however ![]() |

Though I regret that Tom wasn't in the movie I think that it was probably for the best. Non readers of the books would find him too comical in waht is a serious movie. Also he is not vital in the Quest for theDestruction of the Ring and so he was not needed in the movie. I think Christopher Lee said in teh extended edition |

Agreed. Although I know I almost always take Peter Jackson's side in everything... I've got to say he did the best he could, and he did a terrific job... made a movie that we all love, and who are we to critique him in any way? Are we movie directors? Movie experts? I think the book and movie are both special in their own ways, and we should therefore appreciate them differently. |

i agree, but i can't picture Tom B. in my mind, i dunno why, but whenever i read the book, i can never imagone a guy with yellow boots! so it woulg've been cool to see him inthe movie, the Glorfindel part i would have to not agree with , but arwen doing it was a great idea, as someone on here said, we needed more girl power! but i'm not to fond of the actress....but that's my issue! ![]() |

Yes i suppose you have a good point but it would have been nice to see him included though. What do you mean Lalaithnindil, with regards to you can't picture Tom...there can't possibly be a goldberry without Tom Bombadil... |

I would have LOVED to see the Barrow-Wights on screen, they seemed so incredibly cool in the book. Knowing PJ's movie magic ability they would have looked absolutely stunning! I can understand why Bombadil was left out, as great of a character he is in the book I think he would have come out quite cheesy, boring and weird on screen and would have probably been a major confusion for the movie-goers who hadn't read the books as he really brings nothing to the Quest for the Ring which was the movie's main focus. Plus, since he is already such an engraved character in everybody's minds, perhaps more than any other character they would probably have messed him up either way. |

Yes. You are right, I guess the fact that he is left out has made sure that the movie can't mess him up or make him boring but the Barrow-Wights would definitley have been amazing to see. It's a shame about those., no question about that. |

One thing they could have done to fit everything in could have been to make 6 movies (like there are 6 parts in the trilogy). |

yeah...the barrow-wights are ghost like spirits. They don't really have a physical appearance other than being all white and faint faces...just very ghostly really. If you want a good example play the FOTR game. |

I can't believe they left out Tom! I know his part o' the story was kind of slow and not entirely necessary, but they should have at leas given him a little screen time. |

I think if they really tried they could've gotten in the barrow-wights without Tom. Thing is, there'd be two sets of spooky creatures, with only one returning. I bet there'd be a way to have the Hobbits squirm out of the wight of the Barrow-wight. |
