Another wonderful topic from the old location which has to be continued here. If you wish go ahead and read we've spoken about this on the old location, to do that click here.
For the people who haven't read the books - yes Boromir recieves a gift from Galadriel but in the movie that's never displayed. Why do you think PJ did that?

Probably because it wasn't very important. I read the books, and I think that he got a belt. Correct me if I'm wrong. It doesn't have any kind of significance and the only time it's mentioned after he gets it is when he's put in the boat and sent down the Anduin.

I'm really not sure what Boromirs gift from Galadriel was, maybe it was a belt. PJ probably didn't put it in because Boromir wasn't very important.

Yes, I do believe it was a golden belt...*grabs her TTT book to see*

Here it is.

Quote:
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien
Book III; Chapter I - Departure of Boromir
"Now they laid Boromir in the middle of the boat that was to bear him away. They grey hood and elven-cloak they folded and placed beneath his head. They combed his long dark hair and arrayed it upon his shoulders. The golden belt of Lorien gleamed about his waist."

Maybe PJ didn't see mentioning the belt be important but I highly doubt that he thought that Boromir wasn't important. I was rather disappointed that Boromir was given no gift in the movies. It's really unfair :( It may have been that since the gift given to Boromir had no factor in future events that he thought that it didn't have to be represented on screen but if this were true than the whole thing with Gimli and the Lady Galadriel could've been excluded as well but that was really to tie the bonds between elves and dwarves.

Maybe they were stuck on what on earth Galadriel would say to Boromir as she was giving him this big golden belt. In the book it gave the gift giving a mere sentence.

Quote:
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien
Book II; Chapter 8 - Farewell to Lorien
"The Lady bowed her head, and she turned then to Boromir, and to him she gave a belt of gold; and to Merry and Pippin she gave small silver belts, each a clasp wrought like a golden flower."

BUT, it also gave Merry and Pippin a mere sentence. But in the movie, they still had their cameo.

*pout* 2 points off of PJ.

It was definitely a belt, I know it. However, maybe PJ didn't put it because - er - it would be awkward to see Galadriel holding a belt? Just a thought. I haven't seen the EEs where Galadriel gives Sam the rope, etc. I hope I'll get the EEs one day . . . :bye2:

It's hard to explain why ANYTHING is cut out of the books because as many reasons could be given justifying keeping these parts in as could be given for cutting them out. I guess thats partly why there are so many people involved in the making of a movie. To help make these decisions. Otherwise NO movie would ever be finished! I don't see it as very significant considering as Boromir dies like 7 scenes later.

Like a lot of people, I saw all the movies before I even dared pick up one of the books. I didn't want to compare the books to the movies at every turn, which is exactly what I know I would have done. It wouldn't have been diliberate, but I know that I wouldn't be able to help it. If I knew ahead of time that Boromir was given the gold belt as a gift from Galadriel, and PJ left that par out, I probably wouldn't have liked the movie too much. And I wouldn't want that to happen!

The theatrical version didn't show all that much as far as their gifts are concerned, but boy did I love it when the EE came out!!!!

I have heard this question before. A lot of peopl said PJ didn't put it in because it wasn't important, but neither were some of the other ones(obviously Frodo's was) it couldn't of hurt the movie because it would of taken like three seconds. I don't know why they didn't put it in, but oh well I didn't really like Boromir until he died and said that little speach to Aragorn.

Ahh . . . good point. Perhaps that wasn't included . . . because they couldn't imagine Galadriel handing over a belt . . . that's unlikely. :) But I think that they should have put it in because then it singled out Boromir as the one who didn't receive a gift other than the cloak . . .

Or - perhaps - it has to do with how Boromir attempted to take the ring . . . maybe they thought that if Galadriel gave him the belt, it would be as if she was unaware of what he was going to undertake . . . I don't know. :bye2: I'm just guessing.

Woah -- please, watch the language. Even if it is censored, having it not said at all is appreciated.
