Glorfindel!!!! It really doesnt make sense because Liv Tyler didn't even do any of the horse back riding anyway. And I also think that Glorfindel should have done it was because the possibility of Arwen going out by HERSELF to go save a bunch of Hobbits when NAZGUL is roaming about IS JUST PRETTY LOW!

Agreed.
I mean, do you actually believe that Elrond would let her go? Besides, I wanted to see Glorfindel.

If Elrond would order the elves to take Arwen through the safest path just to go to the Grey Havens, he wouldn't let Arwen just go wandering off to look for Aragorn. It doesn't make any sense!

I know! My brother and I had a discussion on that, and the conclusion was that Peter Jackson wanted to introduce Arwen in a scene that was not in Rivendell, but I still think it's inaccurate.

WoW! I think this is a great comment. I had NEVER even thought about this theory of why the choice of Arwen over Glorfindel was maybe not the best choice. I believe your 100% spot on as I know as myself being the father of a 19 yr old daughter, if I thought there was trouble abroad I would sleep with one eye open watching her always......After reading your post the only way I can see how Arwen would have been out there is that thru her "elf senses" she realized Aragorn was needing help & somehow slipped away without Elrond knowing it.

Oh well it all worked out great even without Glorfindel but still you made a great point.

When Elrond ordered the elves to take Arwen to the Grey Havens it wasn't only because of her safety (he's well aware she can take care of herself) but it was to ensure that she left Middle-Earth and didn't stay behind for Aragorn. It's not like he keeps her locked up in Rivendell and never lets her leave. It makes perfect sense that she'd find Aragorn with the hobbits, because she's capable of defending herself quite well. The company she had when going to the Grey Havens was so that Elrond wouldn't lose her to a mortal life. And even then when she turned around to go back to confront Elrond none of the elves did much to try to stop her; thus, he hadn't given them any orders to get her there by any means necessary. I he'd been so scared and overprotective as that earlier post made it sound he'd have ordered them to not let her out of their sight since that might mean danger.

Hmm, yet Tolkien's Elrond never sent Arwen to leave Middle-earth at this point, nor do Tolkien's Elves just let her turn around and leave of course.

In my opinion the only true 'Arwen' -- that is, the character from the books -- would not have been allowed to leave the House here, especially alone with the Nazgul abroad. I agree it makes little sense for Elrond to allow this [if that is what Jackson wants the viewer to believe that is].

Moreover, in the 'film universe' Peter Jackson doesn't even bother to explain why Arwen is out alone in the woods.

Jackson might have an 'arguable' case that Glorfindel be replaced with a character that has more to do with the rest of the film, but even there he need not have employed Arwen in any case; and not only that, Jackson himself chose to beef up the role of Haldir, who likewise [as Glorfindel] had little to do with the rest of the tale as Tolkien wrote it.
