I saw, like, the second half of TTT when I was young and stupid. :P But I had a friend who told me I HAD to see the movies, but my mom wasn't too hot on that idea, so I read the books (well, confession--more like skimmed) and then we bought FotR/TTT soon after. I've seen RotK and re-read the books since then, and have been able to convince my friends I am insane over Middle Earth. :)

Quite a few of my friends were (some still are) confused by FotR, but I always got it. *shrug* Maybe I was blinded by obsession... you never know. I just know I love it.

Seeing the Fellowship of the Ring movie actually started me on my Tolkien going businessness.
I read all the books and the hobbit prior to the release of the Two Towers the next year, color me obsessed.
(Secret: It took me 4 viewings to define Boromir from Aragorn, 6 to separate Merry and Pippin, and 8 to learn the blonde "pretty boy's" name, Legolas.)

When I went to see the fellowship in the cinema i didn't understand it at all so i never went to see the other two. Then I was skipping through the channels on the tv one day and rotk was on so i started watching it and really enjoyed it. Since then I've become obsessed and read the books and bought the dvds. I feel kinda stupid for not understanding it at first...

I had a reeally strange experience when forst watching FOTR. When i saw it advertised i thought it looked sooo boring, but one night i randomnly decided to watch it. It got up t the Council of Elrond and my sister went completley hyper [this was about 12 o'clock at night] and jumped around shouting FRODO BEAN BAGGINS because our step-mam had talked about Sean Bean that night it was sooo hillarious but it was TTT that pushed me to watch FOTR lol...i was like i wonder what happened before all this...

I was a fan from the first moment in the Shire onward.

Before I watched it, I was very doubtful. It appeared to me to be just another "fantasy" movie... (I'm not a real big fantasy genre fan.) But something about it was different; it was more real, more believable. I fell head over heels. :D

Oddly enough, it was my 9 year old nephew who introduced me to LotR. He is a ringer with the best of 'em. ;) (Said fact is proved by the knowledge that he can speak every Elvish movie phrase with a perfect accent.) Him, me, and my 5 yr old nephew watched it one night... and they were more serious than a grave yard, which for little kids, is sort of odd.

What a great post. I agree completley it is sooo real and i believe that it could have happened in the past. They did discover 'hobbits' really small men so you never know! Tolkien could have been born again as Tolkien and just wrote something from his past life! You never know!

My friends saw TFotR in theatres and said it was great. When it came on DVD, my dad got it, I watched it and was like Ohhhhhh. Then began the craze. EVERYONE in my class was obsessed. They grew out of it. I didn't.

When I first saw FotR...it was the Extended Edition. (Yeah, I waited a long time.) I hadn't read the books either, I wasn't all that into it. I was like "why are people all excited about a ring that makes people act wierd?"

I was ignorant. I'm ashamed of it now.

I was hooked at Concerning Hobbits. I love that scene. And the scene at the Green Dragon.
