I think the way Elijah looked so young was fine. He looked gorgeous as well may i say lol.
But um yeah. Although Frodo was supposed to be 50, it would have been weird trying to find someone else to play Frodo and in Hobbit years, when you're 50 you still look young lol. So there you go.
Elijah Wood was the only Frodo Baggins in my eyes and he always will be. Even when they make that LOTR musical whoever plays Frodo will never be as good as Elijah. No way. Never.

He was 33 when he got the ring, and the ring made Bilbo stay young too! And hobbits come of age when they become 30, and if he got the ring just after that, i think it makes scence why he looks so young!!

well actually of you think about it in hobbit years, 5 is the coming of age for a hobbit. In our world maybe around 18 or 20 is the coming of age for us, therefore hobbits would most likley look that young at 50 anyway!
In no way shape or form do i believe that there is room for anyone else in the world to play Frodo Baggins. Elijah Wood not only has the right looks, in his cuteness and innocence, but he also posesses the correct personality in that he is able to play the part in an extremely magnificent fashion. I am not biased because Elijah is my favourite actor and celebrity crush lol but the reason he is so is due to his fantastic acting in LOTR.

I didn't find a thing wrong with Elijah Wood when he played Frodo he looked the part and he played the part very well.
I was very proud of the actor with playing Frodo. And hobbits were supposed to look young in their fifties. Isn't fifty basically a teenager in hobbit years?

I don't have any kind of problem with Frodo being played by Elijah Wood. I think he did a very good job of portraying Frodo. Fifty is not their teens, twenties to thirties is their teens but it is called Tweens.

i know people have already kind of said this, but this is the way i see it - frodo got the ring when he was 33, so if it slowed his aging process as it did with bilbo, he would still look 33 when he was 50 and began the quest. 33 in hobbit years is coming of age and therefore equivalent to human age 18. that means frodo should look as young as he does.

i totally agree, but i also want to say that when i first found how old Sean Astin was, i was flabbergasted! He's something like 25/30, and in the film be looks about 15! Everyone else will probably think that's weird but i really couldn't believe it for a while!

It's all about that hobbit physic i guess. The make-up they used on the actors was supposed to instill a sort of innocence to their faces and make them appear younger.

I don't think he looked that young, but he didn't have too much old age to his face, did he?
As for Frodo looking young, I agree with what Eowyn said. Just look at Bilbo in the movies... When they left Rivendell he didn't look too old, but in ROTK, he looked like a raisin! Hem hem... Uh... I think it was mostly because he lost possession of the ring and age finally caught up with him.

If you compare the book with the movie, he was too young. But hey, who cares? He was the perfect Frodo nevertheless. I mean, with all the changes that PJ did with the books, this one was the best he could do.
Aaaand...imagine Frodo without those shiny, sparkling, bluuuue eyes...

I guess it just depends on his performance. I think the fact that he did a tremendous job sort of makes up for the fact that he looked a little young.

Wandering Darkness wrote: Elijah was a great choice for these movie, but the thing is that Frodo was about 50 years old when he left on his journey. Peace be upon you, Tasare

I didn't mind that he was a bit young, beacuse he's such a good actor. I thought he played the part very well. Actually, I think the casting for the movie was pretty much amazing overall. I love whoever the casting director was for the movies!

I understand the fact that Frodo is supposed to be 50 when he starts for the journey.
However, if you had no prior experience of Lord of the Rings, how in the world would you know that? In other words, how would the director and screen writers be able to show the audience that 20 years just went by like that. *snaps*
I believe that Frodo is supposed to look that young in the movie because it would have been too complicated to try and make sure everyone understood that 20 years had passed.
