For me, there has always been something about Frodo's portrayal in the movies that didn't quite match up to the book. I've never been able to point at a particular problem with the portrayal and say "that's it", but perhaps it is that Elijah Wood was much younger than Frodo.
Anyway, as many people have been saying, he did a great job with the part so it doesn't matter too much!

he played really well so it doesn't really matter if he looks too young and any way he got the ring as soon as he came of age and it prolonged his life didn't it?

oh well, we all have different opinions, which is what makes us awesome. we all agreed upon the fact he did a great job portraying him. question: for those that would rather not have had Elijah Wood play the part, who would your choice for the role be?

He was acctauly 17 when they started filming =D
But i don't mind that hes too young according to the book character. I think it made for a more intersting movie that the hobbits were all reletivly the same age.

maybe, by portraying them to be much closer in age, they were able to create a different kind of friendship, closeness, and understanding between them that would have seemed out of place otherwise.

Yes exactly! Cause if i remember right from the books, Frodo wasn't as boisterous as he is in the movies, and Merry and Pippin were even more crazy haha Frodo was kind of more brooding and withdrawn in the books, so it kind of drew a line between him and sam and the younger hobbits. Though of course the heaver the ring got the more brooding he got. But it did do a lot of character development on Frodo (in the movies) seeing as he was really young and he had to take on the ring.

I think it was a good think making them closer in age because it balanced them out more evenly. I still like the way they are in the book, but it was a good improvement in the films. Frodo still does his share of brooding in the movies, and Merry and Pippin are still pretty crazy, but they're not at such extremes anymore. only Sam seems relatively unchanged.

To be fair, Legolas is about 3000+ years old, but in the movie he only looked about twenty five. Fifty isn't much in Hobbit years, or so it is described, so I don't think so. But that's just me.

I think in the movie, they cut out the time Frodo spent in the Shire before leaving for Rivendell. In the book, he waits years. In the movie, it's closer to days. So to me, Elijah Wood's age was never an issue. Besides, he was so awesome as Frodo!
