Quick, everyone spam the test tag and see if the 60/hr post-limit kicks in! <-- I use that smiley waaaay too much. I shall see if I can come up with something using the brick-ivy picture (only...without the bricks of course, unless you want a colonial/LotR mashup header ). If it turns out nicely and people like it, great, someone else can proceed with text...if not, no harm done, we can try other things

I love the second one too but isn't it a bit too high up in the picture?

It looks better, but it still doesn't look completely right, a little bit too much like someone stuck a picture of ivy on top of a picture of Arwen. Which is what it is, of course, but it'd be nice if it didn't look like it A little darker, like JF said, might be good.

I think that it might look good if there was less black, so that the tree/bird's nest thing looks like it's almost on top of the actual page. Just for what it's worth. And yes, a little darker might be good as well.

I think either of the last two are good, but my issue is still that it's too high up. Move it down a quarter of an inch or so.

Thanks for all the input, guys Eru, I agree that the ivy-bar does seem a little high up, but this header is actually taller than any others A-U has had. It clocks in at 377px, and the tallest we've ever gone is 350px. I could definitely bump the navbar down a bit so it doesn't start until the very edge of the current header, but I'm concerned about making the graphic too big. The loading time and bandwidth will increase, and people on smaller screens will have to scroll down further to see any content So, I don't know if it's worth the tradeoffs. I guess I thought it was the plan all along to have the navbar cover part of the bottom, like this one JF had been working on: So how do we want to compromise? Harthad wrote: I think that it might look good if there was less black, so that the tree/bird's nest thing looks like it's almost on top of the actual page. Just for what it's worth. And yes, a little darker might be good as well. Hmmm...on top of the actual page? I can't picture it. This could be because I just woke up and my brain isn't fully functioning yet Can you clarify? To the several people who said it should be darker, I agree. The bark should probably have the same purpley-brown shadow tone with yellow-green highlights that the trees in the header do. So, I shall give it another go And this time I'll also try adding some random sample text on top, because keep in mind that the navbar-background itself is going to be calling far less attention to itself once it has Stuff on it.

[Just a quick question: Would this be now that I'll say something like.. Ooh wouldn't it be ace if the forum had a more dominant placing on the main site.. like someone suggested, like a seperate button in the side bar or some blinky 'click on me' stuff going? Other than that.. I'll promise to happy with whichever you decide on.. already am. ]

Ahh NOW I get why all the black stuff is there at the bottom! It's so that it'll blend in with the black background of the actual site. I've got such a LULZ-brain sometimes. In that case, it's sort of actually fine where it is then. It just looks so dominant and too high up because we see all that black stuff underneath, but I don't think it'll look too high up or too dominant on a black background! What you could do Arweb, is set up a random test page with the new header in place on top of the existing site layout. It's much easier to judge it when it's in its right element. You could try all the ivy options you've given us so far!

No, no, you set the original header graphic to the exact dimensions of the current header, JF! It's not your fault! I just made it taller so I didn't have to overlap so much of your beautiful work As soon as I make a couple wee changes to the ivy, I'll code a few options so you can all see how it'll look On a different topic, re the tag - I know we've dropped the funding aspect of A-U for now, and since the ad revenue has been picking up and I have a bit of income now, I'm okay with continuing to pay for most stuff ( for the time being). But would anyone be willing to pick up the tab to pay for a premium tag with the setup that Haldir showed us? It looks like it's $20 a year (the old tag was $15/yr). Just throwing it out there...
