I don't know if you want to have a go at doing something with the welcome graphic Tel, I'm not so good with codes I'm not familiar with. I tried using yours, but I'm not sure what to do with it exactly. I've used Arwen's but I think the graphic needs to be a little more nearer the bottom of the header and also the positioning of the forum button needs moving down.

I've also fixed the spacing on the PJ trivia.

EDIT: I've also added the pictures so we can see if we like it better with or without. Personally, I'm really happy with the images but it's up to you guys. :-)

The PJ bio looks fantastic, JF! Love it! :-D

As for the spacing of the forum graphic, it should be really really simple to move it up or down. Find this bit of code:

Code:
<td valign="top" width="200" style="position:relative; top:-65px">
<center>
<a href="/forum/" target="_new"><img src="/site/forum.jpg" alt="Join the Arwen-Undomiel.com Forum" border="0"></a>

...and modify -65px to whatever works for you. If you change it to -100, it will go higher up on the page. If you change it to -25, it will go lower down on the page. You can even take out the negative sign if you want to push it further down. Basically, the code is just telling it how many pixels from the top of where it would normally be positioned it should now position itself, either in a positive or negative direction.

>>>THE CODING SITUATION<<<

Umm.. I think we can talk about a situation here. In the begining when the Revival started rolling a team of 4-5 people stepped up and offered their time and skill in coding. But I don't know how many of these people are still participating in the Revival?
This seems to be where the Revival is stalling at the moment so perhaps now is the time to open up to new team members? I don't know about codes and access and passwords... but what we want to avoid is that too many people get access and oopsy, accidentally someone deletes A-U, right? :teehee:

So how do we deal with this?

Hmm... alright, so I did sound like sour milk in my "we have a situation"-post...

I'm a lot more positive now.. however, isn't it true that it would be nice to get an idea of who's still interested in being Coders (yes, Coders, capital C.. not just coders.. or .. if you prefer.. minions. :P)? Although, the wonderful people working on the site at the moment (yes, Nurr, JF.. Arwebs, I'm talking about you guys!) seem to have the access they need and skill to work on the site...

So the question is.. do we have a situation or is it just me who has absolutely no idea what's going on? (and probably never will have :teehee:)

Seriously, I so love what's happening on the site.. it feels so alive, so perhaps I should just stop fretting and chill. :P

Ok, I have done that. It looks fine to me in google and IE, so with the exception of the welcome text, can we say the main page is done now? Opinions purrrlease. :P

I think it is still an appropriate question mainly because I feel anyway, there is still not as much talking between the coders as there should be. It's been great getting feedback about things recently from everyone, but basically there is still no plan and while I for one (not sure about others) am happy to toddle through A-U fixing minor things or revamping sections, I would be happier knowing that I can call on advise and help from someone other than Arwen, because let's be fair, we did all hold our hands up and say that she wouldn't have to be doing anything hardly for this revival, which hasn't been the case. At the moment, I don't feel like I can ask for help from anyone (other than Arwen) and while that's no-ones fault other than Mrs. Life and Mr. Time, it doesn't help in getting stuff done. I mean, I wish I could do more for everyone, as I know I have a lot more time to spend than most people, because I'm a no-good lazy bum, but as I've said, my coding knowledge is limited.

Which brings me to the Coding Talk thread, which I did set up in the hopes that it would encourage our coders to at least state some kind of "I can do this" or "not sure I'll have time for that BUT...", which again, is not for anyone person's benifit, but for all of us, so we know where we stand and can hopefully find little jobs that can be done and just do them, jobs that don't require consulation or opinions. But that seems to have pretty much gone down as well as an arrow tied to a brick shot from a 600ft cliff which had an anchor attached to it for good measure.

Now, I hope no one takes this the wrong way, as I have spoken to all the coders at some point, and on previous discussions we've agreed to pretty much the same things, and I'm not by any means bemoaning anyone personally, and as I said above, life and all that jazz should come first. But if there could be sometimes a little status clarification, just so we all know who many people are working on the coding or are around, it really would be a big help.

As I said, I'm happy to what I can. I just feel bad that I usually end up getting my questions answered by Arwen.

Looks great to me :) The forum graphic could probably stand to be pushed maybe 10 pixels or more downwards, but when we're getting into that much nitpicking, I don't think you should worry about it too much :teehee:

As to the rest of what you said, this is me nodding my head in agreement:

(What you didn't know about me is that my head is yellow and I'm bald. Things you learn every day...)

Anyway, generally I don't mind answering questions. I know that wasn't the original design for the Revival, but let's face it, almost nothing has gone according to the original plan anyway. I've been far more involved than I thought I'd be, but it's brought me back to the A-U community and that's totally been worth it. However, considering we're still in talks of having A-U continue progressing toward being run by a group, both maintenance-wise and financially, it would be a very smart idea to spread the load on tech questions. Also, if I get busier with work (which, for the sake of my bank account, I hope I do :-P) or am out of town, the Revival shouldn't be held up just because I'm not around to answer questions.

Guys. I've just stumbled across the new layout for the site. And I haven't been keeping up with the coding and I kind of forgot it was going on, but omigosh is it GORGEOUS. What a beautiful surprise. The header and the wavy toolbar...oh my. I love.

Also, I like the new A-U icon. I forget what those are called. The one that shows up next to the URL and the tab.

That is an image I never thought I could conjure up. Definitely the things you learn everyday.....

I fixed the forum button, I moved it down and dum dum dum... actually added the graphic to the actual layout... and not my wimpy copy version. :duh: I wondered why it wasn't appearing. :P

And it has been great having you back. That's one of the many good things that has happened thanks to the revival. <<< See, you're agreeing again.

With me around, we need a whole heap of people capable of handling tech questions. :P Especially as I was doing so well creating a new crew biographies page and I've screwed it up. :teehee: I would work on it more tonight but it's 5pm, maybe if I was more awake I could figure this out on my own.

Any suggestions from anyone as to how I can fix this, will be as always be muchos appreciates. :D

Heeheehee. Always happy to provide strange mental images :teehee: <-- I also like to hang upside down with my tongue sticking out...

Fixed the crew bios page for you...only problem was that you hadn't closed enough of the tables. You had this:

Code:
<td><center><a href="cast_bios/" target="frame" style="font-size: 8 pt">Fran Walsh</a></center></td>

</tr></table></td> <td valign="top" class="border" width="2"></td></td></tr></table>

And it needed to be this:

Code:
<td><center><a href="cast_bios/" target="frame" style="font-size: 8 pt">Fran Walsh</a></center></td>
</tr></table>
</td></tr></table></td> <td valign="top" class="border" width="2"></td></td></tr></table>

Just count how many tables you have open on each page and make sure you have the same number of closing tags, otherwise you start running into nesting problems.

Aw, Arweb beat me. :teehee:

But also there shouldn't be two backslashes between .com and Crew_Bios. It should be "http://www.arwen-undomiel.com/Crew_Bios/Crew_Bios.html"

Then you need to have the link on the Crew Bio page to actually link to the bio of the person. :P For example: "http://www.arwen-undomiel.com/Crew_Bios/PJ.html"

And the photos don't work because you're not linking to the photos. I don't know where they are that you're trying to link to.

Thanks guys. :D

I'm not sure what I did to the original PJ bio (this is like Laurel and Hardy here and I am both of them :P), but my prototype PJ bio page is working fine and the images are OK there... so I'm not sure what photo's you are refrerring to? Unless it's the original bio page I messed up?

I haven't linked to any bios yet, as when I saw what I had done, I didn't want to do anything to make it worse. As if that is possible.....

ZZZZZZZZIP POP!

*page goes black*

..... ah .......

Here's my status update: I'm still around! :-D I'm sorry that I haven't been as active as I should be, and for that reason, I wouldn't consider myself a go-to coder for the minor, immediate code changes that JF does. Instead, when time has permitted, I've been working on the longer-term projects like site conversion to PHP or Wordpress. Converting AU to run on a different language and software is more of a back-end thing that won't interfere with the other revival updates yet, so I (thankfully) shouldn't be a bottleneck for the progress. :-D

I'm balancing two jobs this summer, so I'm busier than I thought I would be, but I do intend to stick around and get coding work done in the background. :bye2:
