I really like the glow Arweb. But the colored text looks really bland on my monitor. So I guess, I'm voting for the second one.

Seeing as how I was one of the coders who wordlessly disappeared for about a month, I'm truly sorry. I got caught up with offline things at the end of the school year, and though I should have let the rest of the team know, I didn't. I guess I lost that sense of urgency as things started slowing to a halt. Plus, the amount of coding needed was so overwhelming that I easily convinced myself to postpone it. :headwall: I apologize to everyone who wondered where I went.

Because while I agree, if we had the header we could just change what we have now, to what we want colours wise etc, I'm still not convinced that taking the road of re-doing AU's coding which is already taking time, is worth it if we take even longer. AU hasn't blown up with the coding it has now, so...... yeah that's about it really.

I agree with JF -- the large scale plans aren't as pressing as the header/colors change on the front page. (Regarding those large scale plans, I'm not sure where Telpeath went, but in his last message he recommended not going to WordPress and instead transferring everything to PHP. Personally, I'm still for WordPress. That way, the next time the techies disappear [like I just did last month], anyone can update the site. I'll try to PM him to discuss more -- otherwise, I might forge ahead with the WordPress plan, or some other platform.)

Quote:
I see NO REASON to have to change ANY coding, whether it be the massive conversion-to-WordPress or basic CSS modifications, before implementing the new header and colors. Seriously - it should take next to no time to get it set up, and at least then the casual visitor will see that things are happening.

^I agree with this.

Again I'm really sorry about my absence! Reliability apparently isn't my best suit :frust: but I would still love to help where I can. :bye2:

P.S. I vote for the second one.

It's great to have you back, Elb. :)

And yes, we do need something to happen on the coding side. I don't know whether you might work with JF and Nurr who has done a lot of updating the sub-sites... Perhaps Haldir would be interested too if she is around.

But we do need something visible to happen soon and I'm hoping it will raise spirits and morale too.

So is there a decided header? If there is, we can probably update the layout.

Also, background. We haven't discussed this. Are we keeping the diagonal lines (someone will need to make the image) or just having it be the same block green color as the forum?

Sorry, I kind of dropped the ball on this :( All the conflicting feedback has made me reluctant just to go ahead and make an executive decision on the glow effect, text color, etc. - not sure where to go with it. Ideas?

Executive decision! :teehee: It's worked in the past. I think mostly people want to see something done and will live with (and get used to) whatever is chosen.

^ I agree. :P

The only thing is with the glow, it looks like it will be either dazzling or crappy depending on what monitor people use, coloured font is a personal choice, so it might be an idea if some people will have a bad perception of the header with the glow, if it isn't used. :-)

Okay y'all, I've done some more work on the header, and I think/hope we're good to go:

Image

OR

Image

The only difference is slight color to the A-U text on the second. Here were the modifications from previous versions:

1) Modified text so it looks more engraved (please, please double-check that these ARE the sections you want on the navbar! I didn't see Humor listed, but maybe it will go under Fun?)

2) Smoothed out dotted lines on A-U text

3) Added dynamic range to Arwen's hair

4) Added very subtle glows and shadows to help the header blend

Any STRONG objections to anything? :-P

Whoa looks awesome Arweb!! :D I love the effects on the hair but maybe just tone it down one teeny tiny notch? Like, just a wee bit darker? It's looking a bit gray-ish on my monitor.

I think I prefer the first choice, but I'd honestly be fine with either. I LOVE the engraved effect on the menu text. Stunning!

I agree with Eru. Arwen done gone grey.

Other than that, either will do. LOVE the softened look on the text dotty bits.

Well Arwen HAS made the choice to be mortal at this point... :teehee:

I totally agree with you guys, actually - it looked darker on the monitor I was using for working on it, but it does look a bit gray on my laptop. Blehhhh screen differences. Anyone want to take a final vote on the A-U text? I like the second one a little more, but I'm fine with either. After I tweak the hair, it's really back to the coders to get this up and active...

I'm gonna go with the first one. But they both look absolutely stunning :)

Wonderful.. as always, no particular wishes to header. :)

Navbar links question:
- What is going under Hobbit? Is it an entirely new section for book and movie? (since there is already links to Books and Films)
- What's going to happen to the (long abandoned) chatroom?
- Aaaaand I've asked for it before.. but can we do something to display the forum with fireworks and a fountain that sprinkles confetti? I think it has a quite anonymous place in the navbar... and yet if we wish to keep it there, can we at least put it under Home... or next to Home maybe....? If that makes sense... :teehee:

The Hobbit will be it's own specific section most of the sections that are currently on the navbar will be included in the Hobbit section. Book, films, gallery, cast & crew biographies and anything else we can think of. :-)

I agree about giving the forum an extra visible place on the navbar. As for the chatroom, as someone who started out there, I would love to see it resurrected, but I honestly don't think it's ever going to happen. I could always post in the facebook group and ask people if they want it back, and if they think they'd use it, but really I think it's quite stone dead...
