In the movie of The Two Towers, I imagine there is A LOT of stuff that we have to comment on about Legolas' role. Whether it be from his skateboarding-stunt down the stairs at Helm's Deep, the swing-up job onto his horse, his silence, or the acting job done on him...you get the picture. :) I'm just curious to see what other people have to say about that...

Oh sheesh, where to start?! :confused2: Well, I'm sure I needn't say anything to his slightly over-done actions concerning a certain shield and also a horse...but I do know that one of the things I wished for in both TTT and ROTK, was that Legolas had spoken some Elvish to calm the animals, like Aragorn did with Brego. I think that that would have been a really strong and great moment for him, one that doesn't make him look too stiff or too heroic, or anything like that. It's just a simple moment just kind of symbolizing his race, and giving something for the fans to just kind fo go "awwww" over, ya know? Just a little moment, but it would have been my favorite part of the movie. :-D

YAY for Leggie!!!!!

Sorry...anyhoo, I was a little bit disappointed (*gasp* and this is coming from a die hard Legolas fan). It seems like he got all the 'obvious' lines, but I guess to make up for the obvious lines he got his, what I call 'Legsie moments' which would be the totally awesome skateboarding trick and the swing onto his horse. I have to agree with Melphie though, I wish he had spoken a tad more Elvish. :disgust:

yeah, i agree...i mean, i know legolas is supposed to be more aloof than the rest, but a lot of his part in the films is visual-oriented...like vaulting over the back of a horse and skateboarding down stairs...i don't know, i would have liked to have more of legolas as a character instead of just stunts...

I do completely agree VikingMaiden. >nods sincerely< I do indeed. And I think it's so funny that you used the word "aloof", because that describes it so well! Legolas may be aloof, but you are right, he is definately NOT able to fling up onto a horse, and I don't think he would dare SKATEBOARD down a flight of stairs with that dramatic music playing in the meantime...even Orlando Bloom joked during either the commentary or the EE Appendices that Tolkien probably turned in his grave when he saw it. I must agree...and as said before, nothing against Legolas! It's just...well, something that is particularly hard not to notice...

I would have liked a lot less stunts and a lot more dialogue from him. He says some very important and interesting things in the book and I don't thing they really got that when they made LotR.

i wish Legolas had more things 2 say.i reckon the stunts were put in 2 remind ppl(as if we need reminding) that Legolas is an elf and can do things that normal ppl cant(like with the Oliphant in ROTK).i have 2 say he looks WICKED skating down the Helms Deep stairs.

I agree with all of you. Less stunts and more talking ;) I laughed when he did his skateboard trick. It was a quite cheesy.

Those stunts are fun, but I would like more talking. You can't see much of the character.

Oh yeah, I bet it'd be every high-school boy's dream to be able to just whip out a piece of cardboard and go sailing down the school steps with a crowd the size of State Fair watching. :disgust: I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I know that there are definately some kids at MY school who would jump at the opportunity...

And yes, I do agree with ArwenQueenofGondor. I did laugh for an interestingly long time after I saw that in the movie... I think it would have been nicer if they had replaced all of his so-called "cool moves" with something more useful to the movie. Like (as was mentioned before somewhere) Legolas talking to Eowyn, or even talking with Gimli just before the battle, or what about talking ABOUT Frodo and Sam or something? Wouldn't that just give a really interesting and cool depth to his character? :-D

Yes I agree with you...something's a bit off if you laugh at stuff that isn't meant to be funny...

Come to think of it does Legolas mention sam/frodo at all? He doesn't talk to them so it's kind of like he's completely oblivious to the fact that they exist lol

To me Legolas' character didn't have any depth or feeling toward anyone else in the Fellowship except maybe Aragorn and Gimli. He was just kind of there to do cool stunts instead of say interesting things and interact with the other Fellowship members.

In the book Legolas says a lot of important things and says some important things to the other Fellowship members, but I think that is the one thing PJ just didn't get when shaping Legolas' character.

I have to say that Orlando Bloom did a surprisingly good job considering that [a.] this was his first big movie and [b.] the way PJ told him to portray the character of Legolas.

Legolas seemed much too wooden and lacked necessary characteristics that made the book Legolas, Legolas.

Okay I will stop my rambling now. *goes off to post elsewhere* :bye2:

I feel so lonely. Am I the only one that dosn't like Legolas or Orlando. But Viggo *whisltes* he's someone who I might try to gush about.

Yeah..I was kind of annoyed that Legolas wasn't given more depth, or developed more, he and Gimli kind of became quite flat, set piece characters. I would have liked him to show more affection towards the Fellowship and have more affection shown to him. And I liked the shield thing, just a bit of fun I think, but the horse thing made me cringe because it was so badly done, if they were going to do it they at least could have made him vault properly rather than just reversing a dismount :confused2:

And I think alot of his abilties were underminded and understated in favour of making Aragron's Elvish upbringing more obvious..

yes, I agree. they're very important characters but they hardly get any good lines except for arguing.
