I think the kind of people who would say she's a wimp would probably scorn or disregard her part in the movies. But anyways, one of my favorite parts in "Many Meetings" is the description of Arwen. "Young she was, and yet not so..." There are so many beautiful things that come to mind when Tolkien tells of her.

Kitoky wrote:
How can people say that she's a wimp? Did they not see the whole 5 minute horse chase in FotR? And how she handled GLORFINDEL'S horse like it was her own darn horse?

I think the filmakers meant that Arwen understood her vision - she saw the little boy she COULD have, and happiness, and a future, and she recognized that. She's not stupid - in fact she is far-sighted and wise. About the adopted father sister thing, it never really says that Elrond adopted him (and this is my opinion here, plenty of people like to think this) but that he came to love him as a son. Arwen was completely absent from his life when he was growing up, because she was in Lothlórien. And not only that, they are separated by hundreds of years and generations of Nùmenorean marriages. whew! done rambling.

Arwen the webmaster wrote:
10) "You saw my son." How does she know it is her son? She is nowhere in the vision. More correctly she say ARAGORN'S son. Because he wears the evenstar signifies nothing. Why would Aragorn not give this to his child as a family heirloom to remember their adopted-aunt (which Arwen is, because Elrond is Aragorn's adopted father, thus making Arwen his sister) by?

**** No clue. Can't refute this one, but blame the filmmakers...

lol, well, we have to remember, Liv is an actress, not an unquestionable authority, and even our beloved Orli once had the mistaken impression that Elves lived forever no matter what. I think Liv was trying to say that she was ready to give up her immortality because her love for Aragorn is enough that it can make her make that decision!

Elberethsq wrote:
Well, like I mentioned, I appreciate Arwen for her sacrifices. Yesterday morning, when I was watching the Special Features of LotR, Liv Tyler said something like, "[Immortality] isn't this big, huge thing [Arwen] has to give up, because everything she wants is to be with Aragorn and be mortal."

Okay, I SWEAR I'm done quoting and uselessly replying!

Wait, was that to me? I'm confused. I'm sorry

Everyone: this, as people have pointed out, is an Arwen appreciation thread. The title says Arwen appreciation thread. The people meant to post here are Arwen fans. Just as you wouldn't start posting on the thread of one of our many Star Wars clubs if you hated Star Wars, it's inappropriate to post negative messages here. If you would like to start a thread for general opinions on Arwen's character (but NOT "Why do you dislike Arwen" or anything similar) and are willing to be rational and civil, by all means do so.

Thank you!

I'm sorry, because I think that included me. Sorry if I ended up offending anybody!!! :guilty: Sorry!

:bye2:

Anyway, to get us back on topic, I'll state that the scene in which I like Arwen the best would be in Flight to the Ford, in FotR. Yes, I really do like that scene. :) Although it wasn't Arwen who rescued them in the books, but anyway. . . :bye2:

I know we want to get back on subject but:
I'm really sorry if I offended anyone. What I stated was my opinion. Please don't dislike me for it. I'll respect your opinion if you respect mine.

I agree I shouldn't have used the word hate, it is too strong for this situation. (please forgive me on this)

Now I will leave this thread for appretiation of Arwen.

Of course I don't dislike you for that!!! Like you said, we're all entitled to our own opinions, it's just that perhaps we should state them in the designated thread. I do respect your opinion of course. On my part, anyway. :-D

Back to the topic. Would anyone else like to share the reasons why the like and appreciate Arwen? Or which scene they like her best? I already stated that I liked her best in Flight to the Ford. Anybody else have anything to share? :bye2:

^*reads super long paragraph by Arwen and jaw drops* I think we all saw that coming.....

Anyhoo, back to Arwen appreciation.
What to say....what to say....
Personally, I like the book Arwen better than the movie Arwen. The book Arwen doesn't get gobs of paragraphs talking about her, but just enough to show that she loves Aragorn and will do anything to be with him.

The movie Arwen was wonderfully potrayed by Liv Tyler. The only issue I had with it was that many of her scenes kind of repeated what had already been made clear; that she was not going to the Undying Lands and that she was giving up her immortality.
^This was the filmakers fualt! :disgust:

Those were kinda like "I'm still here, hello?!" kinda scenes but those are needed to because well obviously because Eowyn was ready to snog Aragorn. :D

^That is a very good point, and we can't have Eowyn snogging Aragorn now can we. That would totally ruin the story....(although it would be kind of funny to see) :P

Oh - well - yes, but also because if we took those scenes of Arwen out, then we'll all be a bit surprised when Arwen pops back into the movie at the end of RotK.

But yes - Eowyn snogging Aragorn - I've noticed that in many cases (of TTT mostly), it's either after or before Eowyn speaks with Aragorn (not really flirting, but you know what I mean) that they throw in one of the Arwen scenes to show that Aragorn is still thinking of Arwen, despite Eowyn's presence. :bye2:

Larael: And zat would cause a civil war among Tolkien fans :(

Elbereth: ^.^ Very true. But no one can deny that Aragorn felt zat he could be with Eowyn but ze thought that Arwen was risking her immortality for him made ze final decision.

I would be very angry if Eowyn started snogging Aragorn. If they did it as some weird parody kind of thing, then it would be funny. I can imagine it now.......

Btw, Elberethsq I never noticed the whole Arwen scene followed by A/E scene or A/E scene followed by Arwen scene. That is a very good point!

Oh . . . not all the time. However, in TTT, during the scene of Dwarf Women, after Eowyn gives Aragorn a long look, then the movie changes to a scene in which Aragorn is smoking thoughtfully and quietly, and then they launch into the scene with Arwen and the dream. :bye2:

But overall Aragorn still constantly thinks of Arwen!

Oh yes - I believe that that is pretty evident. As well as vice versa - Arwen constantly thinks of him.

Anyway! About appreciating Arwen . . . :bye2:
