I think the battle at the Pelennor Fields was the best battle out of all three movies. That scene gave me goosebumps, it was so powerful. The music was great in that scene too.

I both did and didn't like this scene. This is going to be long, but that's what happen's when you ask Shishy's opinion.

For starters, the charge of the rohirrim is the best part of the whole trilogy, in my opinion. 6000 horses running at top speed with spine-tingling music playing is just... . But Theoden's speech was a little wierd. He's supposed to be encouraging them. Plus, the horses getting shot is horribly sad for me :(. Oh well, all of them have about 30 clones somewhere in there...

But there was some stuff I think should have been changed or thrown out altogether. Take the Grond scene (Ok, so that's not exactly the battle of the Pelennor, but oh well.). It made it look like breaking Minas Tirith's gates was easy. Just bang, bang, bang, they're open. I mean, in the book, they can't get it open, and then the Witch King rides up slow and creepy-like(with his horse stepping on dead orcs all the way, adding to the creepyness), and then he stands in his stirrups, holds up his sword, and yells. He does that three times, with Grond hitting the gates each time, and the gates blow up. Why didn't PJ like THAT?!

The part with Legolas killing the oliphant was stupid, no offense intended to anybody. It just adds to my feelings about Legolas being a pansy who shows off to make up for lack of importance in the movie.

There was one thing I liked in the movie better than the book. Eyowyn telling the Witch King she's a woman right before she kills him is somehow better than right when she confronts him. Or at least it would have been, if Lackson had kept it a secret until then. Seriously, it was going to be a big surprise for everyone who hadn't read the books! And then he ruined it!

I agree with Zimoo that the grey company should have been their and the Dead Army shouldn't have. They skip out way too many characters in the trilogy.

Last thing I didn't like about the scene...WINDFOLA DIES!!!!!

Oh I love that scene! The emotions, the horses charging through the lines, the victory....it's a brilliant scene!

I loved Helm's Deep scene when I saw it for the first time but out of triology I would say Pellenor Fields took the prize. :-D I love the way it's shot.

I really liked it but I like the battle at Helm's Deep more.
but I love the scenes after the battle at Minas Tirith. When Eomer finds Eowyn and cries (I also love it when Eomer sits at Theodrens bed, almost crying) and especially the scene when Pippin finds Merry and Merry says: 'I knew you'd find me'. that's one of the best scenes in the whole movie!

They do dynamically emotional things in the battle scenes but the horror of battle can never be masked over for me. I have read to many recollections of the horrors of war so behind the glitz of the screen and the action of the book my heart feels the reality of the loss and carnage. The poets sing and rightfully eulogize the heros, living or fallen, and that moves me. But the moans and cries....the blood and strife....the hearts of men must grieve for years over friends and brothers and my heart aches....

I totally agree.
just like in the dead marshes. I didn't notice what they meant until I heard the commentaries. that it was like in war. thousands of dead soldiers swimming there. it's so sad...

Yeah, I hadn't thought of that....what a picture of the repugnance and terror of war right in the middle of LotR! And who knew about that better than Tolkien, who had experienced it firsthand.

yes. It's so sad, and the fact you oversee it so easily. It must be an extremely sad memory, to see something like that :(
