Oh, that's why I loved it so much. I thought it was really important to show that even when you think you're safe and sheltered and nothing can happen to you, this evil can come.

I personally think they over-dramitized the Paths of the Dead...but people who haven't read the books need to be intertained. *eye roll*
Also, splitting up Sam and Frodo made it seem like their friendship was weak...and yet during the rest of the movies, they're friends so that was kinda contridictory.
The Arwen parts I (suprisingly) didn't mind so much but what got on my nerves was the dude at the black gate with the teeth! He looked so STUPID! I mean you have this totally great movie with believable bad guys and then this guy comes out...the way Tolkien wrote that scene was much better.

estelio_han wrote: they definitely should have added more Eowyn and Faramir. I really wanted to see the part where Faramir gives Eowyn that beautiful cloak like in the book *dies* lol. And they should have had two more weddings! Aragorn and Arwen and Faramir and Eowyn...
The only scene that definitely needs to be taken out is the fight Gandalf has with The Witch King. That portrayed Gandalf was being very weak when he wasn't!! They said in the book that he was more powerful than the Nazgul. And also it was rather stupid that the fell beast that he rode had such a powerful affect on Pippin when later it has none on Eowyn. Yeah...I didn't like that at all.
I don't think it didn't affect her so much as she didn't let it. Eowyn is an extremely strong woman, as we all know. My sister and I love the part where Eowyn says to the Witch King," I am know man." That was awesome.
Two weddings added into the movie would've made it longer, estelio_han, but hard-core Ringers such as ourselves wouldn't have minded, I don't think.

There is a scene in the EE when Eowyn is wearing the mantle!
I like how they kept some lines from the book, but sometimes they changed the complete meaning of them!
For instance, Faramir says Denethor wishes that he and Boromir had changed places. That does happen in the book, but he meant if Boromir would have let Frodo out of Ithilien and go to Mordor, not if Faramir was dead! I'm actually glad they changed that, because it's much more emotional and gives what little Faramir has to do with the plot more meaning.
However, when Aragorn says to Eowyn "I wished you joy since first I saw you..." When I found where he actually said that in the book, I was so angry! In the movie, he means it as a rejection of Eowyn's admiration, but in the book, he means it as a congratulation for Eowyn and Faramir's engagement...

Putting lines from the books into the movies makes it more meaningful to fans of the books as well as the movies. I know that the scene between Denethor and Faramir in The Return of the King was actually meant about letting Frodo go to Mordor. I'm not sure I knew about the line Aragorn said to Eowyn was meant as a congratulations. Thanks for the information, Princess of Ithilien!
