Sean Nelson, a movie critic who's brief critiques are set out over the internet via MSN has a list of the 10 worst movie endings ever that was one of the clickable features when I signed in to hotmail this morning. Guess what's #3? RotK! http://movies.msn.com/movies/2007winter ... s?GT1=7701

Well... after reading what he has to say. He is more going against Tolkien than PJ. I mean, the ending with the "glossy goodbyes" and such really wasn't that long.

After it came out, my mom and I were talking about people not liking the multiple endings. Well, that's how the book is- there have to be multiple endings, or else moviewatchers wouldn't know what happened to some of the characters, y'know? Maybe the critic should read the appendix timeline, and realize how the long the ending really could have been! lol

Well, if you notice, he "talks" about some of the best films ever filmed. Bah! So-called critics never know what they're talking about in my book. There was nothing wrong at all with the ending of ROTK. It was as it should have been to give the finality to all of the characters. Some people just have to pick, pick, pick....

Here is a man that places ROTK and Titanic that combined won 22 Oscars as having the worst endings! Mr. Sean Nelson working for: Special to MSN Movies needs to get another job because he knows nothing about great movies or their endings!!! :bones:

Well, I guess this is just more proof of how retarded some critics are.

No, that wasn't very nice. But this guy makes me mad. :disgust:

it's things like this that just got me to stop listening to critics all together. critics look at every detail. this stuff is out there for the fan entertainment and that's all that matters.

so....i think it's dumb what he says but i also don't care what he says, as long as we like it, there's no problem with it.

i actually think the critic has a point. i've hated the end of rotk ever since i saw it - i refuse to watch past the destruction of the ring, because after that it's just obnoxiously cheesy (and yes, i do realise that my sig set is from the cheesiest film ever made, but enchanted's meant to be cheesy, so it's ok). i love the end of the book, but i agree that the end of the film is truly terrible.

I myself think that the ending was a rather dissapointing, but at the same time I understand why PJ had to do it that way. It would have been forever and a day long if he had followed the real ending. I don't, however, think that it is one of the worst endings of all times, I can think of several worse ones.

There us is no way in HECK that they could have stuffed everything in, so I think that as a movie, the ending was satisfactory. Thats most likely because I've read the books and the appendices, but still.
Yet I suppose that if i just went to the theater to see Orlando Bloom's face in huge it wouldnt matter.

I can see how people could be disappointed with the endings, however I think those who enjoyed them or at least liked them far outweigh that group. It's all cinematography really, and that's how they decided to do it. I think it worked well for the purpose it served. And really, there weren't that many fadeouts. I think people gloss over it and make it seem as though there are way more than is true.
