Hi! wow i haven't been here in forever!
but yeah was watching RotK EE the other day and in the scene when it shows Saruman on the top of Orthanc, he is telling Gandalf that he was moving toward taking the "Crowns of the seven kings and the rods of the five wizards". exactly what 7 kings is he referring to?

Are there seven kings of numenor? hehe i didn't know that. Thanks.
At first i thought he was talking about dwarves but they don't really have "crowns". hehe.

There have been more than seven kings of Numenor, I believe... perhaps it's just my bad memory, but there have been several more kings, and I believe these kings would have worn just one crown, right? One single crown of Numenor, handed down from king to king.

So I think what Saruman is referring to are the crowns of seven kingdoms... it needn't necessarily be only kingdoms of men, but maybe also of dwarves, elves, and other creatures. Kingdoms like Rohan, Gondor, the dwarven kingdom at Erebor...

Or, another possibility, he could have meant the crowns of the seven kings of the Valar: Manwe, Ulmo, Aule, Orome, Mandos, Lórien und Tulkas. After all, it was told that Manwe had a crown and Ulmo had a helmet. Just an idea...

Though, I'll stick with the first theory: the crowns of seven unspecific kingdoms, set in Middle Earth.

Though it'd be cool if he meant the Valar. After all, Gandalf and Saruman are Maia. It would be an interesting angle to that.

Don't hold me to it, but I think he was referring to the original seven kings who came to Middle Earth from Numenor.

Ariadne, I don't think there were seven kings that came from Numenor to Middle Earth, just Elendil and his two sons... so only three. Numenorian Kings in general, there were at least 20 or so generations, methinks. I'd have to check the silmarillion again.

I would have to agree with Erana, They're probably unspecified kingdoms within middle earth. I wonder if they were somehow connected to the kingdoms of the Nazgul, although of course there are 9 of them?

I'll put it on my list to ask PJ if I ever meet him. ;)
