Great topic.

My lyric of the day:

Kutless wrote:
"To Know That You're Alive"

The black of night is closing in around you
The crippling fear moves in as they strap you down
Will you let a moment get the best of you?
Will this situation bring you around?

When the blood stains dry
Will it bring you around?
Will it pass you by?

Right now you're bruised and bleeding
I see the hurt within your eyes
I know your pain is for a reason
You need to feel just to know that you're alive

The days have turned to weeks but it's not over
The bandages rewind you to where you've been
These memories will remind you
When life takes you out will it bring you around

When it's said and done
Will it bring you around?
What will you become?

Right now you're bruised and bleeding
I see the hurt within your eyes
I know your pain is for a reason
You need to feel just to know that You're alive

This song has been really meaningful to me lately; the idea of embracing hurt and facing it, dealing with it. "You need to feel just to know that you're alive." I love the concept of rejecting numbness and living with passion - even when that passion comes packaged with pain. I also love the reference to the burden of memories, because once again it carries the idea of turning to face the things we've allowed ourselves to become numb to just to get by. That doesn't come close to describing why this song is meaningful, but it's the basic idea.

Couldn't this be done in the already existing lyrics thread? I thought that's what you do in there; post whatever lyric that holds a special meaning to them on that particular day.

It's not like I'm against new threads but I just don't see a significant difference between the two topics.

Maybe it's just me though :teehee:

My lyric of the day :D
The Promise - Cindy Morgan
Quote:
He walked away and didn't smile
The man will leave, the boy will cry
To stand out in his freedom
But his freedom hasn't freed him
And they spoke in faith they prayed their vows
But her broken face is longing now

What about the promise that we made
And the vows we freely made before God
Wonder what he's thinking of?
The promise, the promise
That we made

The longing heart, the searching soul
Will search and never find a home
'Til Jesus comes and takes control
And He takes the promises that you left behind
And He resurrects the dead to life
But you can run but you can't hide from your life

What about the promise that we made
And the vows we freely made before God
Wonder what he's thinking of?
The promise, the promise
That we made

Well I know that your heart is aching now
But just let it go and let God turn it
Turn it all around, yeah
Oh, the promise
Oh, the promise
Oh, the promise
That we made

Words can't describe what this song means to me. They just can't.

Ooooh awesome idea. :D

Quote:
Let It Die - Three Days Grace

We had fire in our eyes
In the beginning I
Never felt so alive
In the beginning you
You blame me but
It's not fair when you say that I didn't try
I just don't want to hear it anymore

I swear I never meant to let it die
I just don't care about you anymore
It's not fair when you say that I didn't try
I just don't care about you anymore

We had time on our side
In the beginning we
We had nothing to hide
In the beginning you
You blame me but
It's not fair when you say that I didn't try
I just don't want to hear it anymore

I swear I never meant to let it die
I just don't care about you anymore
It's not fair when you say that I didn't try
I just don't care about you anymore

You say that I didn't try
You say that I didn't try
You say that I didn't try

I swear I never meant to let it die
I just don't care about you anymore
It's not fair when you say that I didn't try
I just don't care about you anymore
I just don't care about you anymore
I just don't care about you anymore
I just don't care about you anymore
I just don't care about you anymore

Too be truthful, when I first listened to this song, I loved it. I don't know why, I just do. And seeing as I'm going through a Three Days Grace obsession I guess it's a bit understandable. Lol. And also, in my opinion, it pretty much sums up my last relationship with a guy. :P

Helen Trevillion wrote:
"Stepping Stones"

Oh I wore so many masks
Before I learned to be me
And I showed so many frowns
Playing the fragile casualty
I watched them dancing from a distance
So sure I'd never be free
So fiercely protective of
some darker shade of me

Looking back I see that these
were stepping stones over the sea
Cause all the tears that stained my face
were doorways to a better place

(We just hold on.)

Keys are hidden from our sight
But we find them when we fall
Pick ourselves up off the floor
See secret windows in the wall
And I swear everything we wanna be
we already are
Just gotta find those hidden keys
Just gotta find them, oh -

When rainy days seem much too long
and everything's just going wrong
Somedays we can barely crawl
We're learning to be beautiful

And time unwinds the aching hearts
Heals the smiles that come apart
All the tears that stain your face
are doorways to a better place

So just hold on
So just hold on
Just hold on
Just hold on
Just hold on
Just hold on

So this is pretty much Aerlinn's fault. :-P I loved the lyrics she posted the other day, but I couldn't find that song. So, out of curiosity, I started to listen to the one album of Helen Trevillion's that I could find. And I was enthralled.

This song pretty much describes... well, my entire life. When I heard the first line - "oh I wore so many masks" - I immediately connected with that song. I love the idea that every tear we shed, every time our heart shatters, every time we struggle with being honest and real... it's just another step to beauty, and hope, and peace.

Rainbow Veins

High rise, veins of the avenue
Bright eyes and subtle variations of blue
Everywhere is balanced there like a rainbow above you
Street lights glisten on the boulevard
And cold nights make staying alert so hard
For heaven's sake, keep me awake so I won't be caught off guard
Clearly I am a passerby but I'll find a place to stay
Dear pacific day, won't you take me away?
Small town hearts of the New Year
Brought down by gravity, crystal clear
City fog and brave dialogue converge on the frontier
Make haste, I feel your heartbeat
With new taste for speed, out on the street
Find a road to a humble abode where both of our routes meet
The silver sound is all around and the colors fall like snow
The feeling of letting go, I guess we'll never know

Cheer up and dry your damp eyes and tell me when it rains
And I'll blend up that rainbow above you and shoot it through your veins
Cause your heart has a lack of color and we should've known
That we'd grow up sooner or later Cause we wasted all our free time alone

Your nerves gather with the altitude
Exhale the stress so you don't come unglued
Somewhere there is a happy affair, a ghost of a good mood
Wide eyed, panic on the getaway
The high tide could take me so far away
VCR's and motorcars unite on the Seventh Day
A popular gauge will measure the rage of the new Post-Modern Age
Cuz somewhere along the line all the decades align

We were the crashing whitecaps
On the ocean
And what lovely seaside holiday, away
A palm tree in Christmas lights
My emotion
Struck a sparkling tone like a xylophone
As we spent the day alone

Basically, lately all my days have seriously been monumentally suckish. And Owl City makes it all better :) Cheer up and dry your damp eyes... it's just the thing I need. Somewhere there is a happy affair... It's not as bad as I think. Happiness is still there, somewhere even if it isn't there for me right when I want it. This song is amazing.

Aaaaw  Yep, Helen's pretty much amazing, and a very nice person as well. :) Everything she does is completeley self-produced, she even started her own record label to be able to be completely independant. :) Btw, Ash Rose is download-able for free on her site: it's one of her older songs she hasn't officially released. Just google her name, her site, Among the Ivory Stars, is the first thing that comes up. The song is under Misc freebies, along with some other songs, including her version of Elbereth Gilthoniel. Yep, she's a LOTR fan as well! :D

Found it! :) Yeah, actually, I'd heard "Elbereth Gilthoniel" months ago and loved it but had no idea who sung it. I really

Cinderella

Another day to paint in
Monochrome and aching
Another battle raging
Between realities and dreams
Another mountain to climb
Another shackle to unwind
Another scar beneath her skin
Another hole to fill in

And her imagination
She swallowed deep inside her
Because they told her it was
Dangerous to dream
But now she cuts it open
Peers inside to breathe it in
She finds herself surrounded
By all the ghosts she's been

This is not my story
This is not the end
Cos everyone is always
Happy in the end, aren't they?
This is not my story
This is not the end
Cos everyone is always
Happy in the end

Aren't they?

As her defenses fall down
Around her fractured portraits
Where shadowed thoughts become her
Hated demons, taunting,
whispering on street corners
- Don't stop now - keep running -
The blood keeps pounding in her ears
A city blurring in her tears

Her defiance tells her
The biggest lie it ever told her
"I am not afraid!"
"No I am not afraid!"
But she's afraid of every
Second she must face alone
Her severed self bleeding
From a thousand stars she wished upon

This is not my story
This is not the end
Cos everyone is always
Happy in the end, aren't they?
This is not my story
This is not the end
Cos everyone is always
Happy in the end

I know I'm meant to be loved
I know I'm meant to be loved...

This is not my story
This is not my story
And I don't want to be alone

This is not my story
This is not my story
Everyone is always
Happy in the end

Aren't they?

This is another one that kind of sums up the last few months of my life, as I've started college and dealt with a lot of turmoil in various areas of my life. I think the song kind of speaks for itself.

Lyrics of the day!
Quote:
Jimmy Buffet wrote: A Pirate Looks at Forty
Mother Mother ocean
I have heard your call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all
You've seen it all

Watched the men who rode you
Switch from sails to steam
And in your belly you hold the treasures few have ever seen
Most of 'em dreams
Most of 'em dreams

Yes I am a pirate
Two hundred years too late
The cannons don't thunder there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late
Arriving too late

....

Mother Mother ocean
After all the years I've found
My occupational hazard being my occupation's just not around
I feel like I've drowned
Gonna head uptown

Alright so most of you are gonna be like what, pirate song? To which I say, "Yep." This song is one of my favorites ever. My Dad and I listen to it everytime we sail down to Pensacola and Mexico. It is our theme song. I have been born and raised by and on the water so I felt it would be a good one to start with. Especially since our sailboat got totaled by Katrina a few years back. The Captain and I have been having Land Fever for the past few years because we only get to on the water every month or so.

"Falling Inside The Black"

Tonight I'm so alone
This sorrow takes ahold
Don't leave me here so cold
Never want to be so cold

Your touch used to be so kind
Your touch used to give me life
I've waited all this time, I've wasted so much time

Don't leave me alone
Cause I barely see at all
Don't leave me alone, I'm

Falling in the black
Slipping through the cracks
Falling to the depths can I ever go back

Dreaming of the way it used to be
Can you hear me
Falling in the black
Slipping through the cracks
Falling to the depths can I ever go back
Falling inside the black
Falling inside falling inside the black

You were my source of strength
I've traded everything
That I love for this one thing
Stranded in the offering
Don't leave me here like this
Can't hear me scream from the abyss
And now I wish for you my desire

Don't leave me alone cause I barely see at all...

This is one of those songs I've been listening to for more than a year and a half and never really "got" until recently. It's basically about reaching this point where you don't know where to go anymore, when you thought you were following the right path and then suddenly it seems there's nothing left but the darkness beneath you as you fall.

Because of what I believe, for me it also is kind of like begging God to come and save me - wondering if He's still listening, and telling Him I'm waiting for Him. And that's where the hope comes in for me, because time and again He has listened and rescued me... and I have the faith that He will again.

LISTEN

Days pass and time goes on and on
But, you might think my skin was strong enough
But there's something you don't understand
I'm porcelain. I'm porcelain

Knowing if I could give you the sky and also the sea
But I don't think there's one thing in this world that'll make you notice me
Cause you can wield that sword in any direction, you damn well please
But you don't understand, that my heart is in your hands
And I'm beggin you not to squeeze

[V1 - 16]
I was ruined in the 7th grade, the pain never changed or went away
The memory's ingrained like it was yesterday
They're telling me I'm crazed, because I've blessed her name
A steady gaze to sweat her frame, If life is just a play, then she was center stage
I sent her letter pages on a daily basis
That her friend's trashed in waste bins
So, if she asks there's just no way to trace this
She was reigning queen of junior high and I was faceless
Painted bangs and bracelets, and even looked graceful in plated braces
I hate to say this but my aim was wasted
So, I trained my heart for 7 years while she remained in basics
Leading the same parade of babes to places
Swearing I held a space in her heart, yet every semester she'd vainly replace it
Yet, I waited and displayed my patience
Even offered statements of positive advice in her cases of shakey situations
But she never associated me with hip relations
With bated breath, I just withstood the breakage
Like porcelain

[Chorus]
Days pass and time goes on and on
But, you might think my skin was strong enough
But there's something you don't understand
I'm porcelain. I'm porcelain

[V2 - 24]
With my hormones racing, praying a for a date on summer vacation
Around the time when your body is under renovation
You know when nothing really fits?
And the girls get bolder, and start looking for older affiliates
I hold a silly wish in my mind that she'd willingly kiss these
lips, but I won't get Frisky, I get the feeling she'd diss me
I'm stil in a risky position - itching to hit a decision
To muster up the ambition to make the proposition
Desperation became my religion
The same way you envision cynics finding Jesus caged in a prison
Visiting hours consisted of English Lit & Diction
History quizzes on Christians to Mr. Richard Nixon
Transfixed in her smile like the other fifty guys
She hypnotized, Guess I'm another stickler for pretty eyes
I minimized my obsession, never made the confession
Even evaded her presence at our graduation procession
It was a decision I later regretted
Wondering what I could have said and would it have swept her away if I said it
Step and Repeat and edit - my thoughts clashed
But I regained my lost chance the very day that we crossed paths again
I revelled in the opportunity, asked her to go dancing
Basking in this confidence that was new to me
It worked beautifully! A wild night became a quiet ride home
As I broke the silence her eyes roamed
7 years of frustration then hit her ears with abrasion
As I laced her with my tale of lust, tears and anticipation
Her reaction was a face of fakeness
Told me she was flattered, but within a tone lacking any amazement
It seemed she'd heard it all before
I realized then, her popularity is what I wanted her for
I tried to be strong as she hopped out the door
But even the hardest hearts break when they're dropped to the floor
Like Porcelain

[Chorus]
Days pass and time goes on and on
But, you might think my skin was strong enough
But there's something you don't understand
I'm porcelain. I'm porcelain

Because in the end we are all little kids with scared hearts,
from other little kids that think they are bigger than they really are
Little boys with scared hearts from little girls that think they are older than they really are
Little girls with scared hearts from little boys that think they are older than they really are
Little kids with scared hearts from other little kids...

A beautiful Hip-hop song about a boy that got his heart broken.
The piano sample comes from a Tori Amos song.
Listened to Tonedeff a lot earlier. He combines a fast flow with great lyrics and unique samples.
He also sampled Enya's "Athair ar neamh" for a song called Monotony about the current state of Hip-Hop and Rap.

The Wreckers - Leave the Pieces

You're not sure that you love me
But you're not sure enough to let me go
Baby it ain't fair you know
To just keep me hangin' 'round

You say you don't wanna hurt me
Don't want to see my tears
So why are you still standing here
Just watching me drown

[Chorus]
And it's alright, yeah I'll be fine
Don't worry 'bout this heart of mine
Just take your love and hit the road
There's nothing you can do or say
You're gonna break my heart anyway
So just leave the pieces when you go

You can drag out the heartache
Baby you can make it quick
Really get it over with
And just let me move on

Don't concern yourself
With this mess you've left for me
I can clean it up, you see
Just as long as you're gone

[Chorus]

You not making up your mind
Is killing me and wasting time
I need so much more than that
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

[Chorus]

Leave the pieces when you go
Oh, yeah
Leave the pieces when you go
yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Leave the pieces when you go

I love this song because it describes how every girl feels at one point in her life, but it also goes into how we will be able to make it through whatever life throws at us.

"What If This Storm Ends?" - Snow Patrol

What if this storm ends?
And I don't see you
As you are now
Ever again

The perfekt halo
Of gold hair and lightning
Sets you off against
The planet's last dance

Just for a minute
The silver forked sky
Lit you up like a star
That I will follow

Now it's found us
Like I have found you
I don't want to run
Just overwhelm me

What if this storm ends?
And leaves us nothing
Except a memory
A distant echo

I want pinned down
I want unsettled
Rattle cage after cage
Until my blood boils

I want to see you
As you are now
Every single day
That I am living

Painted in flames
All peeling thunder
Be the lightning in me
That strikes relentless

Really, it's one of the few songs on the new Snow Patrol album with the dark tone that I've come to expect from them. I just like the driving, intense mood of the whole thing. It really fits the rhythm I get as I fight my way through the halls of high school.

Say goodbye to what you thought was you

We dance in consequences
Entranced with worldly glimpses
Careless with our decisions
You'd think we never meant them

We say that we're the future
Only want it if it goes our way
The time we have is crucial
Will we put this off another day?

No excuses, the time for change is here and now

This is the real adventure
To move past what's mediocre
Obsessed with entertainment
Step up or miss the point of it

We say that we're the future
Only want it if it goes our way
The time we have is crucial
Will we put this off another day?

For a lot of reasons, this song is my life right now. Just... trying to move past the old and not just sitting around making plans. "We dance in consequences," how well put. Because that's basically what I'm doing. =/

Snow Patrol - The Finish Line wrote:
The earth is warm next to my ear
Insects noise is all that I hear
A magic trick makes the world disappear
The skies are dark, they're dark but they're clear

A distant motorcade and suddenly there's joy
The snowing ticker-tape blurs all my senses numb
It's like the finish line where everything just ends
The crack of radio seems close enough to touch

Cold water, cleaning my wounds
A sad parade with a single balloon
I'm done with this I'm counting to ten
Bluest seas running to them

I feel like I am watching everything from space
And in a minute I'll hear my name and I'll wake
I think the finish line's a good place we could start
Take a deep breath, take in all that you could want.

Oh man, this is probably my favorite Snow Patrol song right now. It brings me to a place. I can't tell you exactly where that place is, but it's nice there. :D And it's so chill.

Don't you know that I could be the one to hold you

I'm stretching but you're just out of reach
You should know
I'm ready when you're ready for me
And I'm waiting for the right time
For the day I catch your eye
To let you know
That I'm yours to hold

I'm stretching but you're just out of reach
I'm ready when you're ready for me...

^JF is awesome

There will come a time with no more tears
and love will not break your heart but dismiss your fears

Somewhere out there
performed by Linda Ronstadt and James Ingram
Quote:
Somewhere out there beneath the pale moonlight
Someone's thinking of me and loving me tonight

Somewhere out there someone's saying a prayer
That we'll find one another in that big somewhere out there

And even though I know how very far apart we are
It helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star

And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby
It helps to think we're sleeping underneath the same big sky

Somewhere out there if love can see us through
Then we'll be together somewhere out there
Out where dreams come true

And even though I know how very far apart we are
It helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star

And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby
It helps to think we're sleeping underneath the same big sky

Somewhere out there if love can see us through
Then we'll be together somewhere out there
Out where dreams come true

I'm lonely and sad today.
