See, I think that right there is one of the reasons the Scouring of the Shire was soooo important in RotK. While we (and Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin) are off on this one adventure, we still believe the Shire is happy and safe. And the hobbits there think nothing of what's going on outside. But then Saruman comes along and changes it all, and they start to realize the outside world is coming in. It's like Gildor says to Frodo - "The wide world is about you. You can fence yourselves in, but you cannot forever fence it out."

I love hobbits, for the record.

I don't hate hobbits. I think they're quaint, interesting creatures and their way of life really interests me. I especially love their hobbit holes! Of course, they're not as big and grand as elves and men; as Bilbo says in the FOTR film, they're not great warriors, nor among the very wise. But I still think that they're brilliant. I'd love to lead the life of a hobbit, living peacefully in a hobbit hole - with the exception of looking like one, though I have nothing against the way hobbits look, it's just I'd rather wear pretty Eowyn-ish dresses :)

Before this turns into a ramble I'll just say; hobbits are cool, yes indeed!

I don't dislike Hobbits I just don't like them either.
I just can't really relate with them and their life and history...
For me they are a little boring...
I mean, I do like Bilbo, Frodo, Pippin, Merry and Sam, but they're no typical Hobbits...
So,I wouldn't say that I hate Hobbits 'm just not really interested in them.

I love hobbits, but I'm not obsessed about them. I love their love for gardens and nature. They have absolutely no idea what is going on around them, and they don't care. That's what I like about them. And I really don't see a reason to dislike them.

I can relate to hobbits. I'm short, I have curly hair {not on my feet, though O.o} and I love mushrooms!

Hobbits are awesome. Obviously Elves, imho, are more interesting and if given the choice, I would want to be an Elf, but hobbits are still awesome. ^^

I totally love hobbits and I can't understand how anyone can actually hate them!
My friends only make jokes about them being gay, but nothing else, no hate really

To Esteleth: Well, welcome to the club then. I look like an hobbit too. (and totally proud of it)

Don't listen to stupid people's comments. Hobbits rule! *makes up Hobbit-for-World-Domination-Club*

How can anyone hate Hobbits? Just because they aren't tall, gracious and beautiful like the Elves are? They've got their own sense of appeal and if anything, they're absolutely adorable.

Yes, and hobbits have that sort of inner strength that the other Middle-earth races don't have, their obviously more resistent to evil.

Sometimes, actually, it bothers me how people think Elves are so perfect. Just read the Silmarillion, and try to tell me that Elves are perfect...

I do not hate hobbits. I kind of like them. They are pretty much care free, they love to eat. Their life style is something I would enjoy... or at least I crave for it. To me hobbits represent security, which I lack.

Elves are the strongest and least likely to do evil race, maybe, but they aren't perfect. In a way, hobbits may be better (as evidenced by the way the Ring affected hobbits and elves differently). But Feanor was not the only elf to do wrong things. Others followed where he led.
