And I haven't shot since last summer!! More or less...
But we went out yesterday and it was great. But it did remind me that I really need a new bow. I'll be having an eye out, but I don't like buying it online since I would have no idea what to look for...

Aww, well thanks guys. The tournament was today, and I did rather poorly. We did twenty rounds and my final score was a 218... but I blame my sight. They placed me on the far right of the target, and my sight could only go so far left... so that was pretty much very screwy. Plus, my fletching on one arrow was really messed up; the hen was completely shredded. Unbelievable. I don't think I have ever been so ashamed.
Ea: Oo what kind of bow are you planning on buying?

I'm sorry to hear that Haldy... you'll return with a vengeance soon!! And since I've never been to any tournaments I have no clue as to how bad (or good) 218 is...
Well, you know my only love is a longbow, so I'll be getting a one some day

I went to a market/fair today and they had a very small medieval area where they had a couple of tents, people dressed up in medieval clothing, did medieval cooking and had medieval dogs!! (*cough* or perhaps just dogs...)
And medieval longbows.. so I tried a few shots with them and I did okay... but they were too expensive to buy even though they were very simple and plain. I believe they want to charge for historical accuracy or something...

User is about to ask a really stupid question!
How much (about) does a good bow cost?

My answer is going to be a little vague, because I suck at explaining this sort of thing, and because every bow's price varies a lot, and still - if you buy them in at a good bowyer - they're all good bows. If you want a compound or recurve bow (mostly only for competitive archers, not really for having fun with) you'll need to throw down at least $2000 (CAN). Some of the less tacky ones - like the composite and the longbow - can cost you as little as $80 (CAN)... or less, and - the most expensive I've seen would be a few hundred dollars.
All bows are good though... I personally really like to shoot with a composite bow.

Okay, wait, I just googled to see what a composite bow is... and I'm a bit confused... cuz it showed both that (from my understanding) are compound and recurve.
And... one more question - is there a way to tell what's a good bow and what's not?

Ah, well what I'm talking about it one of the old-fashioned and non-modern composite-recurve bows... those are nice to shoot with.
And really, I don't know much about choosing good bows, because my coach really does all that for me. But if you actually go to a bowyer, you'll probably be able to actually try out the bow you want (or pull it back at least), to see if you are comfortable using it. And if you're buying online, then it's a risk... you'll have to check out customers' reviews.

Hello again, everybody. Long time no see!
I'm going to start bugging my dad to teach me how to use his bow. It's so cool-looking! It's has a 40-pound pull weight, or whatever it's called.
Hi, Celebrian.

Sorry Celebrian, missed you there... course you can join
Draw weight you mean? Cool! I'm trying to work my way up... I have a 26-pound, which is rather pathetic. Tell us how it goes!
On the topic of archery ... the team that I've been on for three years, I'm now one of the coaches of, along with another guy who's also been on the team for three years. Woot!

You just missed Celebrian by 11 months... *hysterical laughter*
Sorry, no offence meant... it has been really quiet lately.. (as in a year!!).
Congrats on being a coach... sounds sweet!!
I still don't have a decent bow.. pretty difficult to shoot it in the city... but some day... *wistful sigh*

^Hey now at least it hasn't been a full year yet
And thanks!! It's pretty cool, but there aren't many people interested in archery round here so we have a small team.
Bah, I can relate... I live in the suburbs so there's no way for me to practice off the makeshift range that we have in a gym. I'd probably get arrested if I tried doing it in my open backyard or my garage
