Onnekaz sheathed Larka. The fight was short, as he had initially thought the men were ill trained and not very well armed. The leader had been attempting to conceal a box which he guessed was probably their gains from pillaging and stealing.
He stopped as he heard the clang of a sword. He noticed that Matthius was repeatedly stabbing at the dead body with a wild expression on his face.
The fact that he had survived was a feat to be proud of. Onnekaz wondered if he had ever taken someone's life before. '' stop'' he said simply to him putting a hand on his shoulder. ''Its over''
Matthius stiffened. Onnekaz removed his hand. ''We are alive, that is what's important'' he stated simply.

(How about this, Caunion:)

Matthias stopped mid-stab, reassured by Onnekaz's words. But after he had finished speaking, another sound reached Matthias' ears. Footsteps. The dull thud of several people trying to sound quiet but ultimately not succeeding. They were coming closer, closer. Soon the two of them would be surrounded. Now was not the time to despair over his first kill. There would be time for that later, if they survived. . .
His heart hardened, his eyes alight, Matthias stood with his sword in his hands, his feet planted squarely on the floor. They would soon be overwhelmed, by the sound of the dull, never-ceasing footsteps walking closer, and closer. Desperately, Matthias wished for a fleeting moment that the others would join them. But that was a fool's hope. It always was.

Stubborn fools. Evelyn cursed in his mind. The boy was young and not likely to know better, but the elf should have more sense than to plunge into unnecessary battle. Evelyn also made a mental note never to reference bandits around the man. He seemed a might touchy about them.

He had nearly made a movement to call them back when he noticed the shape shifter. The expression on his face was easily readable - let the hot-blooded idiots do their thing, then take the benefits. Finally, another one of sense. In previous years, Evelyn would've balked at even reaping the spoils of that type of deed, but times were harder now. If it was going to fall into his lap that easily, he was not going to deny the fates.

Trotting after the others, Evelyn kept himself hidden in the shadows. Then the fighting began. He had to stuff his hand in his mouth to keep out a horrified shout and almost found it hard to breathe. Death he'd seen, but the carnage of battles was foreign to him. He turned his face aside and squeezed his eyes shut, trying to block out the world. It was only when he heard the two talking that he pried them open again. The fighting was over.

Evelyn started out of the shadows towards the two when he stepped on something. Please no, please no....he moved his eyes downward and promptly vomited. And at that wonderfully ordained moment, footsteps resonated out of the surrounding woods.

There were many things that Viola had seen through her colourful history as an intelligence agent. A half-elf flying into a rage was definitely not one of them. As he went towards the camp she had directed them, she silenced any curse she might have formed had she had emotions. She also silenced any words of caution regarding scouts. And soon enough a scouting party had spotted them just as the idiot half elf and the equally moronic boy charged to the house. Sighing, she unsheathed a dagger and ran towards the party. It wasn't that she particularly wanted to save them. In fact if they died, she couldn't care. But she was bored.

She was also fortunate. She still had her perception cloak on but it wouldn't last long if she wanted to fight. She went towards the closest bandit and neatly sliced across his neck with her dagger. As the cloak fell and she was now visible, she threw the still bloody dagger at the second bandit, hitting him in his left shoulder. They need not worry. She had plenty of knives and daggers left. Seven more in fact. She drew two of them and crossed them into an X to parry the axe swing the third bandit had performed in hopes of killing her. She gave the axe handle a small push, just enough so he stumbled back for a little bit. A little bit that she exploited by sidestepping to the left and sliced his shoulder. She then kicked him in the right leg, forcing him to lose his balance while pushing herself forward. The bandit grunted and snarled as he tried another large swing, this one going horizontal. She nimbly stepped out of its path and swung her leg across the bandit's, forcing him off his feet on the ground. She plunged the dagger in her left hand into his abdomen and took it out, only to stab him again. Her blade slipped through his ribs and pierced his lung. Viola left the dagger sheathed in his chest as she went to finish off the last scout. He had taken the dagger out and threw it aside and now was charging towards her, spear out. She took out another dagger and casually batted his spear away, before she stabbed him in the eye. As the scout fell to the ground, she took a few deep breaths, sighed, and took some more breaths.

She then went about reclaiming her daggers and wiping them on the corpses of her targets. Good start. Three dead. Now to see if that pair survived. Which they...did. However, they had also killed the leader, which showed not their skill in combat but their complete lack of intelligence. For one, she was interested to know where they had taken their stones for if they had stolen it from someone, it would be helpful to know who wanted them back. A lesser being like the half-elf or the boy would have given them a scornful glare but Viola promptly ignored them as much as she did the vomiting man. She instead went to their corpses and looked for anything of value.

By the time Kadeb had sneaked close to the bandit's camp, the fighting was already underway. He stayed outside, hiding in the bushes, waiting for the battle to be over. From his location he had a clear view of the camp and ample coverage around him. Now it was just a matter of sitting and waiting.

What he hadn't planned on was being hemmed in. The coverage around him kept him hidden, but it also trapped him. A large man, one of the bandits, came running out the front door. He was running away from the fight, obviously, but he was also running towards Kadeb. Kadeb slunk lower, pressing himself against the foliage and hoping the man would just run by. He looked like he meant to, but a root tripped him up and he went tumbling into the bush where Kadeb was hiding. With a surprised shout Kadeb leapt up and tore his way clear of the brambles. The bandit had done the same, and in a moment of joint clumsiness the two men tumbled into each other. Before the man had time to react, Kadeb pulled a knife from his belt and stabbed the man in the chest, three times in rapid succession. It was better that way. He didn't like killing without reason, but it would have been too great a risk to let him go. He might have decided to turn on Kadeb and try to kill him. Your own survival first, always. That's a rule he lived by. If it meant killing others, oh well.

Kadeb glanced around quickly, but couldn't see any more bandits around. In fact, the sounds of fighting had died away, leaving just the sharp, metallic smell of blood and gore. Kadeb looked over the bandit he had killed; Rags for clothes, no armor, and just a knife as a weapon. He picked up the knife and inspected it. The knife was of higher quality then his own. With a bit of a grin he slid the sheath onto his belt, on the opposite hip as old one.

[Apologies for my late arrival. Exams are evil. :teehee:]

Scowling at no-one in particular, Alyvia had only just decided she'd turn her back on the unlikely bunch before there was a cry and the crash of steel on steel. On any other occasion she might have avoided the combat situation, for she found bleeding heavily only made hunger worse, which was bad news where her rations were concerned. In fact, she would have had the perfect opportunity to slip away unnoticed as the battle got going, for no-one would have time to stop and watch her as she chose her next heading. It was the ideal getaway route... but she wasn't taking it. Somebody, and she wasn't especially interested in who at that point, had mentioned that the opposition in the scuffle were bandits and it had piqued her curiosity. Everyone from the criminal sect she had known had died or simply not been accounted for; she was interested to find out what other classes of criminals had survived the nigh-apocalyptic disaster that had struck the world.

Instead it was Alyvia's acute awareness of her weaknesses that made her hand back, reluctant to make haste for the sake of taking her share of glory. Close-range combat certainly wasn't a strong point of hers: most men stood a head taller than her anyway and her slight frame, though excellent for climbing and running, made her an easy target to overcome with sheer force. Still the supposed bandits were preoccupied and if she could sneak up on them she'd have the element of surprise on her side.

Automatically unhooking a slim fighting knife, she sank into a low stance and moved, at considerable speed, towards where everyone else was fighting. With nearly half the men down and counting, the ragtag band hadn't done badly - if you could excuse the crude fighting styles some had adopted. Circling broadly, keeping as low to the ground as was possible without impeding her ability to walk, Alyvia found the kind of target she'd been searching for: a lone bandit, armed, advancing on one of the ground as they fought of one of his comrades. Sure-footedly she closed in on the man and slammed the blunt handle into the back of his knee, causing him enough pain that he cried out and crashed to his knees, no doubt only adding to the damage she'd already caused. That first move wasn't option: she'd had the bad luck to find a target who was too tall for her to pose a significant threat to him, whether he had his back turned or not. Leaning away just in case the man collapsed backwards, Alyvia wasted no time in sliding the blade through the man's heart and dragging it downwards to catch the arteries.

Positive at last that he was dead or soon about to be, she wedged her foot on the bandit's shoulder and pushed against him with great effort to free her knife from his corpse, staggering backwards a pace or two before regaining her balance at last. Pulling out a ragged and filthy cloth she set about cleaning the fresh blood from her blade, contemplating the slain men. They were no bandits she had ever consorted with, she could tell that immediately. Those she had known had wanted fame, notoriety and the fearful respect they gained from it, which they used to climb the metaphorical ladder and gain more money, authority and power - in that order.

Sliding the clean weapon into the sheath strapped to one of her thighs, she inched towards she house the remnants of the house, listening intently for any signs of activity - she was relatively sure the fighting had moved outside, but wasn't yet ready to completely rule out the possibility that one of the bandit's number was playing hide-and-seek among the ruins. Certainly she wasn't ready to hand over her life to a man half-heartedly concealed behind the remains of a caved-in roof or a collapsed wall... not when there was the possibility that the bandits had managed to steal something worth her attention.
