OK, so I was looking in the appendices, but I can't find a guide that equates a tengwa with a latin letter, or even a sound/pronounciation, for that matter. Help? I'd like to be able to learn/write with the tengwar.

There's some good resources for learning on councilofelrond.com and there's always wikipedia. There is a tengwar chart which matches up eache tengwa with recongnisable letters. But I don't know how to post images.

haha I got it! :-D The letter on the bottom represents the letter or sound used in english. This is the Sindarin(Beleriand)mode and I believe Quenya tengwar basically uses the same symbols differently.

You can get the Tengwar fonts for free at this website if that's any help.

I see some of you people are Language Masters, and that even take notes using the Tengwar alphabet. Can you please tell me how exactly was that you accomplished it, and which resources did you use? I want to be like you!

For me, it was going online and first searching for a table which shows the Tengwar and their corresponding consonants/consonant clusters, then lookng for some Tengwar texts and their Latin alphabet versions, and comparing them to see how the runes are used in writing.
The appendix at the back of RotK actually has the full list of Tengwar and their sounds, so you might want to take a look at that.
And also, if like you said you aim to take notes in Tengwar, then you might want to know that different languages (eg. English, Sindarin, Quenya, Spanish, Black Speech... etc) have adapted the Tengwar slightly differently to suit their language, so the same Tengwa can have different values depending on what language you're writing in :)

So good luck learning! Just practise as often as you can, writing, and reading too. You'll get the hang of it in no time! :D

I learned to write Tengwar in high school based solely on the information that is in Appendix E at the back of the Return of the King book. It took practice, and wasn't always completely correct, especially the vowels and stress, but it made for some good maps and notes and such for the D & D game I was involved in some years later. Sadly, what was once learned, has for the most part been lost over time. I may get back into it one day.

.... and a year later, I have again started writing Tengwar. Doing a bit of modernising using a pencil and a ball point pen instead of Calligraphy. Updating my old D&D Middle Earth campaign maps and scrolls before I archive it. The old Company was left encamped in the mighty Cedars before the great cliffs since 1985.
