Hello All!

This rp is loosely based on Downton Abbey, Same era and location, just a different house and family.

It will start the same as Downton, in April of 1912, just after the sinking of the Titanic.

At the moment, the house is full of empty, and available characters. And Godmodding will be allowed on any of those that are unclaimed. But once they ARE claimed, that character belongs SOLELY to the person who claimed them.

So, like the Edwardian times, this rp has a bit more structure and a couple rules, but mostly its free to have fun!

Can't wait to see where this goes!!!

Name: Josephine (Josie) Maxwell

Position in the house: Youngest daughter of Lord Maxwell

Age: 17

Appearance:Tall and slender, Long mouse brown hair , blue eyes.

Personality: Mostly in developement, though, as most rich children, she's spoiled and selfish, though not mean. She just expects to get what she wants.

Name: Susan Maxwell (nicknamed Susie by her family and friends)

Position in the house: Eldest daughter of Lord Maxwell

Age: 21

Appearance: Rich brown hair, greenish-blue eyes and fair skin
http://image.wetpaint.com/image/1/67MyS ... /GW318H445

Personality: Susan has a sensible, level head on her shoulders and a strong, unshakeable sense of responsibility towards both her family and the house. In many ways, since her mother’s death, she has been the glue which holds the family together. She is fully dedicated to the running of the house, which she sees as nothing less than her duty. In her spare time, she is fond of painting landscapes of the Lamford parkland, and enjoys reading poetry. Something else to be noted is that Susan is considered quite a beautiful girl, and receives some considerable admiration from gentlemen. However, she would absolutely never indulge in a flirtation with any man; such a thing would be both scandalous and frivolous in her eyes. She expects that her father will arrange a very fine marriage for her one day soon - naturally one that is advantageous to the good name of the family. This being such, she is mindful of keeping a flawless reputation of virtue and good manners.

Name:Olivia Scott (goes by the name of Liv)
Position in the house: Lady's maid
Age: 23
Appearance: Long, brown hair, usually worn in a braid or bun, dark eyes

Personality: Liv is very cheerful and people like to be around her. Although she is intelligent and has the right attitude, Liv doesn't have the means to achieve more than a position in the Lamford House. It's Liv's dream to see the world and all its beauties and she hopes that her job at Lamford is only a temporary one, until a new opportunity comes her way.

Played by: Will

Image

Name: Mark de Clare
Position in the house: Friend of the family
Age: 29
Appearance: Tall, blond wavy hair and blue eyes.

Personality: In development.
History: Mark is son of Lord de Clare, a very good friend of Lord Maxwell. He often came to Lamford House with his parents when he was a lad, but as he grew older he felt that he was much more interested in business and politics than the simple things of managing the estate or hunting. This greatly disappointed his father, who turned to his other son (Mark's younger brother David) to be his successor and favourite. Mark moved to London and met his parents only a few times over the next years. Lord and Lady de Clare were aboard of the RMS Titanic, which sank on the 15th of April. He then returned to the de Clare estate to manage his parents affairs with his brother.

Played by: Will

Image

Name: Raleigh Williams

Position in the house: Footman

Age: 20

Appearance: Light brown hair, grey eyes, tall and rather slender.
http://i50.tinypic.com/so2428.jpg

Personality: Having (for the time being) secured a position on the household staff, Raleigh’s grown a bit lazy, always trying to get a job done with the least amount of effort. He’s kind enough when the mood suits him, but he’s also prone to sulking when things don’t go his way. He tends to be rather idealistic, so he doesn’t react particularly well in stressful situations.

Played by: Shadowcat

Are we ready?

Here we go!

The sun was just now fully shining on Lamford House, and already the great mansion was bustling. Servants were running to and fro to make sure that everything was open, lit, and in tip top order when the family arose.

Lord Maxwell's family had owned the house for centuries. No one really know how they had come into their money, there was a rumor that had something to do with King Richard and the Cruisades. They had nearly lost is because of some bad connections in france, but they jumped on with the railroads and had been secure ever since.

Now, the family dabbles in a bit of everything, Not only the railroad, but also textiles, Tea, and a few special projects that are close to Lord Maxwell's heart.

Lord Maxwell is a tall willowy man with a dark beard, which was beginning to show a few shades of grey. He's a no nonsense man of rather an old fashioned disposition. He has no patience whatsoever for the Sufferagettes, or the labour union.

The Lady of the house has long since passed away, and the running of the house has been left to his oldest daughter, Susan.

His youngest daughter, however, is allowed to do most anything she likes, which includes sleeping in. But this morning, 17 year old Josie Maxwell just can't seem to do it. Someone had left the curtains open and the bright morning sun was streaming into her bedroom. She squinted in the brightness and groaned. But, once she was awake there was no going back, she rolled over with a sigh and rang the bell. For the first time in weeks she would have breakfast with her family.

She rolled back over and shut her eyes to wait for the housemaid.

[I'd like to join, if you wouldn't mind me being a little slow-paced. :) I'll take a character who's kind of off to the side most of the time, maybe a footman or even a groom. Can't quite decide yet. :teehee:]

[ Just letting you know that my posts will be up tonight or tommorow! We're currently hit by a heat wave here and every day it's like 28-30 degrees Celcius outside, wich is also the temperature in my room. So it's almost impossible to work (on my laptop) either inside or outside, or even in the air-conditioned uni. ;)

@ Goldy - Pm is on its way as well ;)

(Yay! I hope this is okay =) I've included an opening at the end of my post for any charrie to appear :-D Forgive me if this is a bit too lengthy  But I wanted to kind of get to grips with Susan's character ^_^)

Susan sat in the seat nearest Lord Maxwell's vacant chair at the head of the table, opening a letter that had been delivered for her just this morning. As yet, she was the only one here for breakfast; of course, she didn't expect Josephine to turn up anymore, but it was a little disturbing to see that her father wasn't yet here. She comforted herself with the thought that he probably wouldn't take too much longer to turn up to break his fast with her; she wanted to see him, to be able to be kind to him and say soothing things. The family, the entire county in fact, had been shaken by the recent news: the tragic deaths of Lord and Lady De Clare. The Maxwells and the De Clares had been neighbours and friends for centuries. Susan had always loved visiting their beautiful house, which boasted one of the most magnificent libraries in England. She had many childhood memories of the De Clares; she could remember herself at only four years old, politely asking her father which one of the De Clare's sons she would marry when she was grown up. It had been an innocent question, and very natural too; Susan had been a practical little girl - if she was to marry one day, why, then she might as well marry someone who lived close to her own home.

These days, Susan left all thoughts of matrimony to her father, which she saw to be right and fitting. Now, sitting alone at the table in her elegant violet dress, Susan read over her letter, her eyes narrowing and then widening. She sat back in her seat, lowering the letter carefully onto the table, a slight tremor visible in her hands. The letter was from a great friend of hers, a one Nancy Silvers, a young lady of noble standing similar to her own, who resided mostly in London these days. The two young women kept in constant contact, their correspondence mostly consisting of chitchat about everyday things, such as doing the London season. However, this new letter was something very different altogether; it carried the news that Nancy's brother was missing. He had booked a crossing to America, needing to be in New York to settle some business affairs. Now, he was believed to be dead; the ship he'd been on had been none other than Titanic, the selfsame vessel that had taken the lives of the De Clares and countless others.

Susan buried her head in her hands, grateful that there were no servants in the room to see her cry. She didn't like anyone to see her like this, not when she took such great care to present herself in the correct way. Quickly, she wiped her eyes, already forming in her mind the beginnings of the letter she would write back to Nancy. It would be unforgivable not to reply straightaway, no matter how difficult the letter was to write. She smoothed her neatly arranged hair, taking in a deep breath, striving with an iron will to maintain an outer appearance of serenity and calmness. She had to be the strong one for everyone else. It had always been that way, ever since the death of Lady Maxwell. It was Susan's job now to remain in control.

She couldn't eat her breakfast now, though, let alone drink a cup of tea. Nothing could settle the ache in her stomach nor the grief in her mind. However, Susan had long ago mastered the trick of keeping a mask up for others. No matter how she felt inside, no one else would see that she was hurting. She kept her poise perfect, shoulders straight, head up, and she wore a small smile on her lips, a friendly smile ready to offer comfort. She had to be there for everyone else, if they should need her; it was not for her to be comforted by others. That would not be suitable.

She quickly folded up the letter and raised an eyebrow as the door opened. Susan did not feel any surprise; in a house such as this, one was never alone for too long.

[ Goldy is the Queen of Lengthy Posts, so I guess she can't help herself :teehee: Loved it by the way! :) ]

Mark de Clare watched the neatly kept lawns and well-trimmed hedges as the automobile swept up the broad entrance way to Lamford House. With mixed feelings he looked up at the grand house, which he had not seen for years, except years back when he had attended the funeral of Lady Maxwell. It was somewhat ironic that he only paid the Maxwells a visit at occasions like these, but then he always enjoyed coming to Lamford. Especially now, it was a relief to escape dealing with his haughty brother at the De Clare’s house for a moment. And even though he had become estranged from his parents over the last couple of years, he had always felt at home at Lamford, whose owners had been much more tolerant and social than his own snobby parents.
The driver opened the door of the car and Mark breathed in the cool morning air. He had not announced his visit, so he guessed that he would startle the family and disrupt their quiet breakfast. Mark snorted; he had never been that strict with etiquette, much to his parent’s displeasure. He thanked Jimmy, who left to park the car, turned to the front door, straightened his black suit and rang the bell.

------

Liv jumped to her feet as soon as Lady Josephine’s bell rang. She quickly put on her apron before heading to the staircase, humming a song as she was on her way. Today was going to be a good day, that’s what she had told herself. She had been really out of sorts recently after Raleigh had told her about what had happened to the Titanic. Soon, it had been talk of the day, both upstairs and downstairs, but Olivia didn’t participate in most of the talking, which was very unlike her usual self. She had been shocked about what had happened, as she had dreamed about the Titanic for months. How she had wished to be aboard the Unsinkable Ship that would bring all those peoples across the seas to New York. It seemed like the ultimate adventure, which one day could be her adventure. The sinking of the ship and all those deaths had woken her from this daydream and shocked her. However Live had decided that this would not dampen her optimism: if she ever was to go to America, she would go by aeroplane.
She knocked on Josephine’s door and paused for a moment, before entering the bedroom. She looked at the Josephine, who was still in bed and smiled. “Good morning, M’lady. Did you sleep well?”

Josie sighed, "I suppose, but kindly remind the new night maid to shut the curtains, that full moon was simply ghastly"

She stood and walked to the washbasin. "I suppose I'll wear that new blue dress, Olivia. You know, the one with the Sailor Collar?"

Image

She rinsed her face and blotted it dry, then sat down at her vanity table and began applying creams from glass bottles. Most of them had fancy lables, some had cloying scents, all were expensive.

She the did the unthinkable and applied a hint of rouge and a lip stain. Not enough to really be noticeable, but it added an extra beauty to her unblemished face.

At that moment, She heard the faint distant ring of the front door, and her father's jovial welcome to the unknown guest. "Olivia? What's all this commotion downstairs? Is that a guest at this hour? What could possibly have possesed someone to come at this time of day?"

It was getting to the point, Raleigh noticed with relief, where he could react almost automatically to the sound of the front doorbell ringing. He’d been distracted so far this morning, though he liked to think he could be forgiven—they’d all been shaken by the news of the Titanic sinking. Unsinkable, they’d said; that was what Raleigh found the most unsettling. What else could they be wrong about?

Not that it concerns you, he had to keep reminding himself. He didn’t have any business with fancy ships and America or anything like such.

He wasn’t sure who to expect when he opened the door—to his knowledge, the family wasn’t expecting guests. It would have been a surprise to see anyone standing on the doorstep, but even so, Raleigh couldn’t stop himself from raising an eyebrow at the appearance of the tall and handsome man. He’d seen him before; not very often, not nearly enough to be able to put a name to the face, but enough to know it was a friend of the family’s.

He ushered the man in, glad to see that Lord Maxwell had already arrived to greet the guest. Raleigh took a few steps away, unable to deny that he was curious to see how this would turn out. Chances were that someone would shoo him away before long, but he intended to wait here until that moment.
