I am curious do you think the elves should have come to Helms Deep???? I don't because most of them died and Haldir died, I love Haldir so...... but then Rohan would probably have been destroyed, so what do you think???

I half- think that the elves didn't have to come, and the book version was in the movie. (In the book some Erkenbrand guy came instead and Eomer was already there. The only elf was Legolas)

I think they chose to use the elves instead of Erkenbrand because introducing a new character at that point would have been confusing for the audience, so a better solution was to use someone we already knew. In a book you can say "this is so and so from this place who is related to this person in this way", and basically spend some time explaining who they are, but you don't have that luxury in a movie, which is why sometimes they choose to use different characters than in the book.

This. Although it would have been great to see Erkenbrand, for the purposes of the film, having the Elves come and aid Rohan was more practical. Also, it was pretty powerful to see Elves and Men fighting side by side. The battle at Helm's Deep is one of my favorite scenes ever.

^^ It was powerful, but much more sad. When Theoden, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and the rest of the rohirrim ride out from the castle of Helms deep, the scene when Gandalf has just arrived, there's no more elves except Legolas alive anymore. So, all members of Haldir's army died. Realizing this makes me cry even more in that part..

I don't think it was necessary. I also feel they should have made a bigger point of the trees destroying the rest of the orcs in Lorien and the Rangers meeting afterwards.

There should have been no other Elves than Legolas.

I always found it unbelievable that the Elves - with hundreds or thousands of years of training and skill in battle - were all wiped out that easily (except Legolas conveniently because he was needed for the rest of the story...lol) while all these men somehow lived. It was a pointless addition.

I think they should have left it out and just done it the way it was in the book, personally.

I don't think they should have put the elves in helms deep, especially if they are just all going to die anyway. They could have at least kept like 50 of them alive to the end. I understand the difficulties in introducing a new character, but if they could do Gamling, they could do erkenbrand. They could even do a little fords of Isen scene for erkenbrand and maybe show theodred not dead or mortally wounded! I would have loved to see what he was like! The massacre of Lorien elves in helms deep is unjustifiable, especially since they would have been busy with their own battles in their own land. It makes me so sad every time I see Haldir's death scene and the shot of dead elves piled on the ramparts of helms deep. Oh, so depressing!

Yeah, just having them die was so pointless and they should have fought way better than they did.
They don't need to be viewed as overpowered.... if PJ was that concerned about it he could have just added more orcs... no one would have known the difference. That would have made the battle still "seemingly" hopeless if that was what he was wanting to not loose....
Either way. I think they should have left them out (as stated) and certainly not have given them such pathetic deaths if they were going to add them in.
