Well, about thirty years ago, when I was still single (but had met my future wife, then still studying at the university), I drank freeze-dried instant coffee - wasn't bad, I've drunk much worse stuff.

I had not been familiar with the term Sanka until now, but I'm quite familiar with Kaffee HAG (short for "Kaffee Handels-Aktien-Gesellschaft"), the brand under which this decaffeinated coffee is sold in Germany, and under the name Sanka in a lot of other countries, by the above-mentioned company that first sold decaffeinated coffee. But decaf is - eh - not my cup of tea (figure that one out for yourself, and if you've managed to make sense of it, please inform me!)

I have no use for decaf coffee.
I mix a number of grinds together for my own blend - breakfast, espresso, etc.

*Warning! Old geezer reminiscing!*I remember back in the (early?) 1960s, when my parents and I were on home leave in Germany (every three years!!! Tell that to today's expats! ), I went shopping with my maternal grandmother and for coffee, we went to a coffee store and she bought whole beans, which were weighed into the package from larger receptacles - with special spoons or shovels. You could by Java (!!!), Sumatra, Brazil, Colombia (maybe) etc, no big-to-huge brand coffee conglomerates selling prepackaged and -ground stuff. Grinding was done at home with manual coffee mills, same at my paternal grandparents' place, something I always loved to do. Once, though, I decided to test if the grinder could grind other stuff that was not really meant to be ground in it - was treated to a unanimous "not amused" reception by all the adults (I was under ten years old at the time ... )

Coffee mills.............wonderful things, and they can still be purchased, new. Some companies are actually making functional ones and fresh-ground is simply The Best.
I have a friend that roasts her own beans. Now, that is true dedication.

I would love to try all that some day. I just lack the initiative due to schedule and cash. lol I have always heard people say, though, that if you can do that it is the best coffee.

I have some Costa Rican Santa Marta Plantation single origin beans to load up my DeLonghi coffee machine with. It has it's own grinder in it so beans is the only way for me to go.

I became Iggy because I had a sadistic boss at a record store. I'd been in a band called the Iguanas. And when this boss wanted to embarrass and demean me, he'd say, 'Iggy, get me a coffee, light.' ~ Iggy Pop

When we were shopping for a new, simple drip coffee as I mentioned earlier, some of the Star Trek - / Star Wars - looking complicated contraptions probably were equipped with integrated grinders for whole beans. I've come across such contraptions occasionally in the office - especially once around 2002/2003, when I was on part-time delegation to a software-development project. But then I was among the proverbial Java freaks, anyway; blasted machine was so loud it gave you a wake-up call before you got your actual caffeine fix! Not overly popular in most offices because of the noise. @SilverleafArtist: LMAO - now I think I know what THAT acronym stand for! The more polite version goes LMBO, right? With at least two versions for B that come to mind spontaneously ...

I voted yes, for I am not a very nice person if I don't get my coffee in the morning! (love the emojis here!)
