*waves hand* I read all that, Anameleth!
See, I would have greatly preferred it if TTT was a lot more like the book, but I do understand most of the changes. Some, like the Elves, are frustrating and good at the same time--I liked the presence of the Elves, but the fact that it was added and wasn't in the books negates it.
And there's Faramir. Nothing compensates for that. Faramir was ruined for the movies. The more I watch the movies, the more their deviations bother me. And it increases exponentially.

*gives Aerandir cookies* amazing, I didn't think anyone would read all that
(*actually made a longer post about why she likes lotr on a harry potter forum the other day*)
I can see we agree quite a lot, Aerandir, and that's good. at least everyone doesn't hate me for liking some of the changes

I read all that AND I agree with you! Does that mean I get TEN cookies? j/k. Anyway, while the books will always be better than the movies in my mind, I agree that in order to make the movie a good movie, certain changes had to be made. I didn't necessarily agree with all of them, but the movies were great and really well done!
And while we're on the subject of things that were changed in the movie, why do you think PJ put the Evenstar pendant in the movies? I don't really see the point. Maybe it was just to put another connection between Arwen and Aragorn...

Regarding the Warg attack in the movie Two Towers.... P.J. likely got his inspiration to include some scenes as described in the chapter The Battle of the Fords of Isen from the book Unfinished Tales.
In the Second Battle of the Fords, warg-riders attacked the Rohirrim horsemen screening the right flank of the Fords on the east side of the river. Saruman had sent them along with a small army of orcs east of the river Isen at its headwaters so they could attack the Fords from both the east bank and west bank. This led to the Rohirrim defeat of what remained of Theodred's forces from the First battle of the Fords of Isen when Theodred was slain.
This was touched on by PJ in the extended Two Towers movie. In the Two Towers book, there is only a bit about stragglers from the defeat in the second battle of the Fords meeting Theoden and party as they were retreating to Helms Deep.

Been a while since I watched my DVDs, including (what would have been the most recent viewing) the EEs. But faded memory seems to tell me that what was heading from Edoras to Helm’s Deep was NOT just the warriors as in the book, but civilians, too. If so, another thundering mess of PJ’s! Why did he f**k up so seriously so often??? And why so often on utterly central issues of the book where he totally lost it, as if he were a moronic piece of Hollywood sc*m who had not the faintest idea of the book, an excuse he can never use?

No need to bash PJ in the book section.

Though I do not have a single-volume LoRT book edition, my three hardback volumes are certainly objects that are very useful for bashing with damaging effect on the bashee (that DVD stuff would hardly injure a fly). And anyway, who started babbling about PJ here???

Gandolorin wrote: "... anyway, who started babbling about PJ here???" That would be ~RinielAranel~ back on Sept 11 2006. Since I first appeared here on AU in January 2007, I regularly lamented the fact there was this diminishing divide between Tolkienverse and Jacksonverse, and quickly became known as the cranky old guy. Even got an official warning from a mod when I drunkenly got down on someone for posting Movie crap in the Book forum. It was a losing battle. So yeah Gondolin, wait, THE Gandolorinion... yeah, go ahead and bash away on PJ. Nobody in power here give 2¢ anymore anyway. I was just trying to be positiveish, but I get what you're saying.
