For most of the company's journey, Valandil had remained remotely quiet and somewhat distant from the group, not physically, but otherwise. He held an air of mute somberness, yet whenever the time called, he was courteous and helping. Alassea on the other hand, seemed tense as she followed; perhaps from her dissimulation of feelings or the fact that she had been slightly on edge from recent events. In any case, her senses were jarred with anxiety as she moved along.
The air grew thicker as the amount of trees seemed to cluster together, leaving marginal shafts of sunlight through the canopy overhead. It was more a jungle than a forest, but considerably less warm. After a while, Alassea began to notice that her brother's footsteps were growing slower, and a bit more careful. From memory, she judged that their place was very close, and her brows furrowed with curiosity.
" What is it?" She asked quietly, her hand sliding down to her thigh were her dagger rested.

While at first Enyalie had thought they were too much alike. But now, it seemed they were so different, she would have doubted they were actually related. At any length, Alassea seemed more anxious than her brother, although Enyalie could tell that Valandil was slightly tense as well, and she took the cue and took quieter steps as well.
When Alassea's hand moved for her blade, Enyalie also made sure her's was well removable, sliding just slightly from it's sheath, waiting patiently for Valandil's answer.

It was too late. Valandil did not have time to answer before Alassea felt the harsh tip of an Easterling arrow pointing at the nape of her neck. Her whole form stiffened and she stared straight ahead. Infront of her she could see Valandil with his hands raised, three arrows threatening to be released into his chest. She dared not turn around to look at Enyalie and Lairiel, for not only could she feel the arrow but a raspy hot breath against her cheek.
A small band of Easterlings no less. Of course, it was just her luck.
" Alassea Helyanwe....Long time no see. And. What's this? Her little brother caught in the fishnet as well? I'm getting tired of young salmon, 'specially since that's all there seems to be near the beach. But my my...seems we've caught not only one catfish, but three!"
The raspy breath moved from her cheek and her jaw clenched as she assumed the man was now inspecting the two behind her. It was humiliating, and despite the fact she had an arrow at her neck, she could not seem to keep her sarcastic mouth shut. Obsidian eyes darting to the side where the voice came from, she said in a voice loud enough for the whole band to hear her.
" Still referring to people as food, you filthy swine? I'm not surprised, you must be so hungry. You can't hunt worth the reaking rags on your back."
Although her retort gave her some satisfaction, she wished she'd kept her mouth shut. A searing pain erupted at the side of her face as the man hit her with his closed fist. She fell to her knees, but not before she could feel the arrow tip drag across her flesh, scratching her neck as she fell. Licking her lip, she tasted the sticky sweet blood that issued forth from it. Spitting it out, she glared up at the man, who she could now see glaring down at her.
" 'Lo, Anan." She forced a smirk.

Enyalie had heard a twig crack moments before, and thus had unsheathed her dagger. It was little help, however, as an Easterling hand closed on her fist, holding the blade immobile. She scowled, glaring coldly at the swarthy barbarian in front of her. Lairiel she could not see, but Alassea was on her knees, which seemed an unlikely position for her companion to able to stage an attack.
She winced as her hand was gripped harder, and dropped the dagger. So this is what she stowed away for..Did she miss this kind of action, or was it mere stupidity?

The man whome she callled Anan looked down with disgust.
" Get up."
Alassea stood, but not because he told her to. Sucking on her lower lip, she stood face to face with him, eyes narrowed in such a way she thought she saw him flinch, as if he thought about stepping back. But his pride was too big for that, it was nearly as big as Alassea's, in fact.
" You're father said you'd be visiting Valandil.."
Her brows raised in a 'is-that-so?' sort of gesture before she spat blood in Anan's face. ..'Stupid, Alassea, stupid stupid!' Anan's fist came up again, but this time she was prepared.
Grabbing his fist inside her own, she wrenched it downwards, her other fist colliding against his painted nose. Two hands from behind her grabbed both her wrists, and bound them as Anan straightened, clutching his nose; however he did not look at Alassea. Instead, he moved back, inspecting Enyalie with keen interest, his eyes looking down at her fallen blade, then back at her.
" Tsk tsk. Was that yours? ..Finders keepers then." He wiped his nose, and bent down to pick it up, studying it's craftsmenship nonchalantly.
" Take them to the house of Valandil, men." He finally said, a hint of mockery in his voice.

She fought a smirk, watching his hands scornfully. Of course...He could not have known about the mechanism she had built within the hilt. Once he let go, and grabbed it again, it would be likely slice off his grubby thieving fingers...But even that thought was not comforting, and she was highly tempted to kick him in the nose...Even if Alassea hit hard, and Enyalie knew from experience that he would be feeling it for a while.
She was roughly pushed forward, stumbling to the ground. But, not preferring another jab with an arrow, she got to her feet silently before her captors could force her up. She hated contact with anyone, even her friends, and just being this close to these doltish savages...

Things happened so fast, and before she knew what was going on, Lairiel was surrounded by Easterlings. She watched Enyalie fall and get to her feet again, silently cursing their captors. She stepped forward, following the group and jerking her head to her left, trying to get the rough tip of an arrow from her neck. She scowled and muttered something unintelligible, reluctantly moving along. She fought the urge to make a rude remark and bit her lip, staring at Enyalie's back a few feet ahead of her.
Apparently Alassea knew one of the men. She didn't appear to fond of him and Lairiel admired how Alassea stood up to him. She glanced up at Valandil and then stared down at her feet. What's going to happen now? She wondered.

Anan had moved up to the head of the line where Valandil was forced to lead. Though Alassea could not decipher the exchanged words over the rest of the Easterling babble, she found it odd that they continued on their intended path. Just as soon as the trees had thickened, they began to thin, and the captives were led into a small clearing. A grove so to say. A beautifully structured stone house stood in the middle, surrounded by a clear stream, and a small bridge leading to the front doors lay ahead of them. The doors were already ajar, as if they had been in and out of Valandil's home.
Once all the captives were led inside, the doors were closed and bolted. It was a funny thing to Alassea, however. What were they going to lock out in their own land?
Fifteen stood in the empty circular room, all the captives having been stripped of their weapons, and pushed into chairs, where they were bound once more. It wasn't until now that Valandil had spoken.
" I'm sorry, Alassea."
Her brows knitted, but before she could reply, Anan let out a feral growl of pain, three of his digits having been cleanly severed off. It was Enyalie's dagger. She had remembered her friend telling her about the clever mechanism many years past, but did not think of it 'till now. She bit her tongue in her austere attempt to refrain a snort of laughter. Anan couldn't find the humor in it.
His mahogany eyes locked on Enyalie as a wild rage overcame him, and he strode across the room, dagger in hand. Valandil, who was sitting closest to Enyalie, stuck out both his legs in attempt to trip Anan as he advanced closer.

Enyalie had bit her lip incredibly hard, drawing blood, in an effort not to laugh. But when Valandil tripped Anan, she realized that the Easterling's rage would be far more severe than what it might have been, had it not been fueled by humiliation. She turned her head to look questioningly at Valandil. She knew he would be more than likely to suffer for more than damaged pride, but also for three fingers.

Lairiel shifted in the chair, trying to get comfortable. She finally gave up and frowned when she saw what was going on around her. She noticed that Anan was three fingers short and raised an eyebrow. Apparently Enyalie had built some mechanism into the hilt of her dagger...
She watched in silence as Valandil tripped Anan and pulled her legs back under her chair so the Easterling wouldn't land on them. She thought back to what Valandil had said. What was he sorry for? Lairiel pressed the question from her mind, trying not to jump to conclusions. She leaned back as Anan's face reddened in rage. Her gaze moved to Enyalie who was fighting laughter. Lairiel assumed that whatever happened next would not be pretty. She waited anxiously, her gaze drifting around the room.

Alassea knew all to soon just what he was sorry for..
Her mouth dropped, obsidion eyes growing fearfully large as they stared transfixedly at Valandil. Alassea watched as Anan dislodged his sword from Valandil's stomach, wiping the blade on his cape, and tipping his chair over. Her brother fell, but his hands were still bound to the back of the chair. His eyes closed and he made not a sound as a small pool of crimson blood slowly grew around him. Alassea could not tear her eyes from him, nor utter a word.
Anan looked over at Enyalie, then burst out in mad laughter.

Lairiel's jaw dropped in horror. Her eyes widened at the sight of Valandil lying on the floor and she found it suddenly hard to breathe. Her eyes darted to Anan, staring at him with a sudden loathing that surprised herself. His laughter rang through the silent room and she scowled at the sound. She followed his gaze to Enyalie, waiting.

-:gasp: You killlled him o.O your own brother, Ann. -
Enyalie turned her face away, closed her eyes, lowered her head in some effort to block out that cruel laugh... It had to be a dream...No, a nightmare. Why should he have done that? At least he had a purpose, a family. She had no reason, she was nothing to save. A tear rolled down her cheek, sliding slowly, followed by another.
She raised her face, now emotionless although tear-stained, and looked directly into Anan's eyes. He would pay. With more, so much more, than fingers.
She could not have been able to look at Lairiel...Much less Alassea.

[<Snickered.> Did I? Are you sure?]
Alassea's eyes could no more blink than they could shed tears of blood, and yet for all her worth she could not avert her gaze from his blood. From his face. Everything that she had lived for was now fading into nothing. And for what? An Easterling's tantrum? Shame clouded her mind, making everything hazy and unclear. Her sight, her smell.. even her sense of hearing was off. Nothing existed, and yet she felt unbelievably crowded.
A dry cackling awoke her from her trance, and as much as her spell was sick and cruel, her reality was even worse. However. Her mind was no longer clouded with that gut-wrenching shame. Instead, it was replaced by a white-hot madness, enmity towards Anan and a certainty of retribution.
She didn't have time to cry. Tears could wait; they'd be forced to. At length, Alassea finally managed to tear her eyes from her brother. They fixed on Anan. He had stopped his insane laughter, and turned around, walking to the other end of room. What happened next went by so fast, she didn't have time to react to her actions. She was moving on impulse and instinct.
Halfly standing up holding her chair behind her, she piveted around on her heel, blowing the chair into the Easterling guard next to her. He undoubtedly topsided over, but Alassea had time drag her hand ropes against the sword that was tied unsheathed to his side. Ripping it from him, she swooped the blade horizontally, making a clean sideways cut into another's neck. No mortal could have moved so swift, even she doubted that she could have pulled it off twice. Once was lucky enough, and ironically, she had her father to thank. The one man she hated equipped her with the tools she needed to avenge the death of the one man she loved.
She wasted no more time in releasing Lairiel and Enyalie.

The ropes that bound Lairiel's hands to her chair were sliced off and she jumped to her feet. She felt terribly vulnerable without any way to defend herself, although she rarely carried a weapon anyways. She wasn't always held captive, nor was her life always being threatened. Lairiel didn't like carrying even a small dagger, much less a sword. If she had to she could use a bow and arrow and rarely missed her mark. She preferred to use calm words rather than a weapon to settle things.
Lairiel stepped back and watched as Alassea worked skillfully with the blade in her hands. She wished she had something with which to protect herself, but she hated the idea of using a sword, no matter what Anan had done. Alassea and Enyalie would take care of things. In the meantime...
Lairiel rushed towards Valandil and knelt beside him. An Easterling stepped up behind her and she turned quickly, grabbing his ankles and pulling them out from underneath him. He landed on his back with a grunt and Lairiel jerked the dagger from his belt. She dodged the fist that came towards her face and plunged the knife into his chest. Her eyes closed and she gritted her teeth, yanking the dagger free. She quickly wiped the blood from the blade and cut Valandil's ropes. Lairiel tossed the dagger aside and leaned forward, pressing her fingers to the side of Valandil's neck.
