So, how many metalheads are out there in Midgardr? Who's listened to it? Liked or disliked? Who's thinking about it? Who thinks its the best music in the world? Who thinks its the devils music (you've gotta be some zealot...)? What are your favourite genres (Pagan/Viking/Death/Black, Power, Symphonic, Folk, Classical etc.)? Your favourite bands? Songs? Who are you listening to now? Concerts? Hopes, wishes, dreams? Anything Else?

My favourite bands are: Blind Guardian, Rhapsody, and Dragonland (they are the ones I listen to the most on a daily basis). And I enjoy most genres of metal.

Yay for starting a new Metal thread.

You KNOW I'm a die hard metaller. Coming close to 20 years and to think my parents thought it was a phase

I like most sub-genres..but at the moment..Power/Pagan/Viking/Folk metal is what stirs my blood and makes my spirit soar.

Power/Symphonic Metal mostly for me (gotta have the epic melodies!) but since Metal is the greatest genre in music I'll listen to most of it :)

Favorite bands are:
DragonForce, Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Avantasia and Falconer.

Favorite songs:
Anything and everything by said bands above :p

 same here... who on earth (in their right mind) could think the mightiest, greatest and most awesome genre in music to be devil's music?!

Hehe, recently I've been listening to Amon Amarth. Yeah, I first started listening to Metal (to a lesser degree compared to punk [I was only listening to what my brother listened to] ) when I was, oh around 7-10. Well my brother later found his calling in rap (don't burn him, please) and my musical preferences kind of found it's void there, it all fell apart. Well come the 8th grade, following my just recent love of the LotR (I didn't turn an eye towards it when the FotR came out, and not still for four years) I found Blind Guardian, due to some of their songs being LotR related. Well I hit metal there, and my love has not faltered, but has gradually grown to this point (some 2 and a half years later, making me in my mid-teens). So, yeah, here I am before you, a child of the metal gods (my name on the BG forums >_<). I'd say my favourite band (so far) in the Viking/pagan genre is Moonsorrow, and my favourite songs Mjolnir/Haaska.

Granted there is Black Metal..but I'd say about 95% of them are attention seeking...I'll stop there lol..but you get the drift.
The other 5% THINK they're all Satanic ect, when they really have no clue whatsoever.. and real Satanists would laugh there butts off at them.

Hey, sorry! I just figure there would be some christianic zealots out there who'd view it as such, and their opinion is accepted without confrontation, However, a lover of the genre, I must say that to view it as such is childish, and impratical. It's just because there tends to be a lot of metal bands that go on about vikings (generally depicted as heathens to Christians), and the devil, and death so on. They may mean it, some do not-I don't care, music is music, and metal rocks mah pants! *ahem*

Yeah. You should see the posters me and my friend put up aroudn my religions class (with my teachers permission!!!), all written in Norse runes!! And the things we talk about in that class? The school thinks we're Nazis! But we just do it for fun! Chill out, why are we gonna worship some dictator who's reich, which was supposed to last for 1000 years, lasted only 12 years?! People take things a little to strictly. Don't look at ME like I'm one now....

Amon Amarth's lyrics are just so extremely powerful! I can relate to every single thing they say and I agree with everything they say! Granted we can't really post the best parts of their lyrics here since that would probably get us banned for life :p

Hey Erethror, where are you from?

Well....Asatruars would describe themselves as Heathen. The name seemed to stick and anyone that wouldn't convert was labelled a Heathen. Anywayssssss...back on topic lol

Amon Amarth are quite simply phenomenal. The music, the lyrics, the passion behind it. I tend to journey a lot to there music and I have to keep myself grounded on this plane a lot when listening to them.

Korpiklaani have much the same effect and to a lesser degree Nightwish.

Nazi's stole a lot of Heathen/Pagan images such as the Swastika (which is also a Buddhist symbol) and turned it into symbols of Arayan power.

Ah...I've diverted again....

The word 'heathen' has no religious meaning behind it at all. It was simply used on people living on the heaths (or moors as they're also called) - which often were the ones still practicing the old gods, thus making the word 'heathen' a negative word about people not yet exposed to "the right faith", although I guess we can't really discuss that here.

The Return of the King was on TV today and after the Battle of the Pelennor when Theoden is all hurt and is dying in Éowyn's arms he said something like he would finally join his fathers and that he wouldn't have to be ashamed of himself now (since he died gloriously in battle) and it seemed to me he was almost talking of Valhalla which warmed my Heathen heart :)
