I am not 100% sure, but I think they were made by Melkor to prevent Orome from riding too often in Middle-earth. Or something like that. I know that Orome got too easily from Beleriand to eastern parts of ME, and Melkor didnt like it.

ok. I'm not sure exaclt how much sense this is going to make, but you'll get the gist.
What happened the Silmarils? (What with all of them being lost and all) Name the fate of each of the Silmarils. there you go, that make more sense, lol.

One Silaril was lost in a dark cavern when Maedhros jumped to his death with it in hand. Another was thrown into the sea. And the third was set into the sky as a star. (And a very pretty one at that!)
