For me personally, the book is so much different from the movie, so I don't really mind. A book's a book and a movie's a movie. The movie is just an interpretation of the book, however great it may be.

me too. Of course the movie is just an interpretation of the book and I'm sure PJ had his reasons for doing what he did if I find the reasons good ones or not.

I thought it added a different vibe to the movie. In the book, at the beginning of the Fellowship, the relationship seemed specificlly like master & gardener(w/e you wanna call sam) It was a touching scene, however.

I always skip those bits where Frodo is all chummy w/ Gollum and is turning on Sam. I know their story is the most important, but I can't stand it in the movie!

i dont get worked up over it, of course PJ had to change somethin, and if he had changed something else, then everyone would be angry over that.

And I used to yell at the screen when that scene came but now i laugh -and have been ever since I saw the bloopers of it. ^^

I believe they call that Dramatic Liscense, and I agree it was out of place in the movie. PJ probably felt it would increase the tension, and allow for the confrontation with Shelob all the more suspensful. I didn't care for that as well.

Every movie has to have conflict to keep the whatchers interested, the none fans (they have not yet come under the spell) that was just one of the changes personally I think it makes the movie more interesting. But thats just me. :/

I still don't think that PJ needed to do that to Sam, although it does prove just how far Sam is willing to go for Frodo. It made my friend hate Frodo.

That scene is not exactly necessary, but it shows how evil the evil side of Gollum is and the influence of the ring well, I think. :-D

I thought that was rather harsh and odd because no matter how much the ring had taken Frodo he wouldn't send Sam off in Mordor, still it was dramatic.

what i don't get is why sam just doesn't wait until they are a little ways off and then follow them. that's what i would do.

Maybe, he was so distraught (for want of a better word) that he lost all hope and gave up, rather than following them :-(
