Well I don't cry myself, but it is perfectly ok to cry. Just a healthy thing. Sometimes you just have to let it out and that's cool.

I'm the same as nightcrawler. I don't cry so much, but there's nothing wrong with crying. Those are such beautiful parts!

There is a quote by one of my favorite authors, Larry Crabb, that goes,

“My tears are my highest form of worship.” Larry Crabb

That really makes an impression on me.

To be moved by something to tears is to be very intimately involved, likely on a deeper level than we realize. (A lot of times it happens because our interaction with the characters is bringing us to experience things that really matter a lot in our lives.) It is to care for and regard someone or something in the extreme…very much like worship.

I know that the word worship comes with a lot of baggage…lol…but in the old marriage vows it said, “With my body I worship thee…” or something like that. So I think worship means more than homage to some god. I think it is a relevant way to describe other close relationships in our lives too—that are often brought clearly and tearfully to mind by what we experience in the world of literature...indeed in the world of LotR!

What do you think?

That's true! Unfortunately some people (like my family) doesn't understand that and I can't watch lotr with them, and if I do, I have to really get a grip and not cry. (although that doesn't always work...)
And sinbearer, I'm just curious, isn't Tolkien also one of your favourite authors?

Absolutely! His writing is so deep and rich and full of truth, feeling and life that I don't think I could ever get enough. In LotR there is more to see than can ever be seen and more to learn than can ever be learned. What a wonderful, wonderful gift he gave to the world!!!!!

I completely agree with sinbearer on this one, Tolkien is a genuis. The things he did with LotR are just amazing. I have never in my life seen an equal to his works. He did something so powerful it made people everywhere continue to love it for so long and still love it now. Very few books can do that to people.

oh, I don't think you're Ms. Sensitive. I think we all LOTR's fans cry when watching the films, or at least most of us. I personally do, but I can avoid it, and I don't mean to...I feel so close to the characters that it's like, I'm feeling what they're feeling :)

Oh no sweetie, you are not too sensitive at all in this :-D
When I saw FOTR and heard the most gorgeous and beautiful music all time, I was felt with tears as well. My mom cried a lot!
There were so many sad moments in the movie. Sam and Frodo in the boat, the loss of Gandalf and the death of Boromir. Although Boromor was taken by the thought of the ring, his death was a sad thing. When he was shot and still raised his sword.....a sad memory.
And the deep respect between Sam and Frodo when Sam followed Frodo on his way to Mordor.
It is a beautiful memory to think back about FOTR.

I always get sad at the end of the movie when the song "The Breaking of the Fellowship" is playing and Frodo and Sam are standing on that rock and talking..it's such a beautiful moment.

Yea! I'm not alone! I heard someone use the phrase 'just too beautiful' earlier. That's right! So so beautiful. Makes me cry alllll the time.

I don't cry cry, but I do tear up. It is touching to see the loyalty reflected in such a simple way. I feel the same at the end of TTT and RotK (though at the end of that I do really start to cry).

One of my favorite quotes is, "Tears are words the heart can't express." -Anonymous
I really think that is true. They are words beyond expression. Yet Victor Hugo said, “He does not weep who does not see.” Even though we can't express it except through tears, the very act of crying shows that we see and feel things on a deeper level than we can articulate well.

So tears are a crucial part of seeing..of understanding...of expressing.
