Did you read the books or watch the movies first?
I first watched the movies, and I LOVED them.
After this I thought that it would be interesting to read the books, and so I did. I preferred the movies however...

I tried to read the books when I was 7 or 8 but got bogged down, and then saw the movies and read them and actually understood

I first saw fotr (and was a little scared of it first to be honest, I'm afraid of red lights in the dark and when the Eye came, I freaked out and fell off my seat) and then I read the books first in german and I loved it. One year ago my neighbour lent me the books in english, she didn't belive, I'd understand them, but I did. I loved them more in english than in german to say, and to be honest, I still like the books more a bit.

I watched the first movie and got interested for the books. So the first movie was the breaking point.

I read the books before I saw the movies, and loved them. In fact, me and my family didn't go see FotR when it was in the theaters because we thought it wouldn't be very close to the book. We rented it, watched it in the evening, then watched it again in the morning before we had to take it back! lol After that I fell in love with the movies. I like the books better than the movies, by a little. lol

I saw the movies and thought they rocked, so i read the books, which was when i got COMPLETELY addicted to lotr. the books rocked, and i think the movies got pretty close to doing them justice.

books ofcourse, and I'm glad it's so, because when you first read the book you have the liberty and joy to imagine it all in your way, to create your own world based on the descriptions, and when you see the movie first,it's kind of already done for you,so it "kills" the fun and beauty;)

I watched the movies first, and just loved them, thanks to the prodding of my LotR obsessed friend. After my own obsession started, I decided to read the books then the Silm, Hobbit, UT, etc. I love them even more than the movies now! Tolkien's way of writing is so ingenius and captivating, with such depth, that the movies can never have. So I watched the movies first, and they introduced me to my love of the books

I first saw FOTR when I was 9 or 8 and I love d it right away and LOTR became my all time favourite movie (and still is ) and for some reason I didn't find out it was based on a book until I saw TTT . I didn't want to read the book at first (shocking I know...) and the main reason for that was because I thought it would be all complicated and full of elvish stuff that I wouldn't understand or something like that , so about 1 year after ROTK came out I decided to finally read the book and I loved it so much that I couldn't put it down and became a huge Tolkien fan. Now I'm pretty much reading any LOTR related book I can get my hands on. Actually I barley read any other kinds of books now unless I have to for school

I saw the movies before the books and I have to say the books were a little better.

Books first for me. Read the books in my teens. I grew up with a LotR loving family so it has always been a huge part of my life, even before I read them myself. I then saw all the movies when they came out in theater which brought me back into the whole world of Middle-Earth again. I adore the movies just as much as the books

I read the books first (about three years after the movies came out, but I never saw them) and loved them so much, and after that I watched the movies.
