One of my favorites would have to be Theoden. I love how he is saved from a base existence, and later finds redemption in his death on the Pelenor Fields.
"I go now to my fathers. In whose mighty company I shall not now feel a shamed".
I hope when I go, I can say I have no shame for my existence.

Me too! I stole a banner a little while ago that said it. I wrote it in my planner last year. It's a fun phrase.
Frodo Lives!

Tinuviel's Tears wrote: Goldberry is pretty cool. I like her. I don't knwo much about her though, considering the only thing I've read where she is mentioned is LOTR, and there she wasn't talked about very much. is she in the Adventures of Tom Bombadil? Because I have that, but I haven't read it yet. I'm curious. I know she's not a Maia. more like a River Spirit. A Niad maybe? Hmm.... curious.
I did not know there was a book called The Adventures of Tom Bumbadill!!!! Cool!!!
But ya she is the rivers Daughter!!!

I like Goldberry too, but we (readers) don't really get introduced to her tht much. Because she's just in one chapter. We don't know much of her character, but her dress is cool, I might say..! and Tinuviel's Tears, what's a planner?? heh

Sorry! So sorry! I keep remembering we're not all from the states round here. No problem though. A planner is something that you use to write down your schedule in. You can right down assignments that you have or appointments, or bithdays. Whatever you wnat really. It's there to help you keep track of everything.
I am very interested in Goldberry, especially with reagrds to what she is. Yes, she is the River Daughter, but how? Where did she come from? was she another plan of Yavanna at the beginning, or was she another plan of Eru's? I wonder if there is any Tolkien books out there that explain it.

yep. and no need to apologise, it's me who doesn't understand! when I first read fotr I was like: River daughter? er- rivers dont usually have daughters in human form...etc. So I've also wondered what exactly she is. And Tom! what are they?? But that's the fun thing about Tolkien's writings, if one reads every single word of his writings, (s)he mightn't still find out..

Frodo rules indeed. He's my favorite. Note the siggy if you will. yes he is the hero, but he's such an unconventional hero. That's one of the things thta makes me love him so much.
Legolas is also a great character, and my initial favorite. He just doesn't have the same....................... something as Frodo I guess. Sorry. I have a hard time making sense.
Perhaps I will do a search on Goldberry, and see hwat I can find. Once I found a whole site just dedicated to the Women of Tolkien's works. I bet there would be something good about her on there. I'll post if I can find it.

I would have to say Arwen and Galadriel(can't choose between them). They both are very unique characters who make their own decisions!!!

And both of them are these mystical, beautiful, powerful elves who have a story of their own.. a history of themselves..

On Frodo's birthday, me and my friends went crazy at school and called it "Happy Hobbit Day". only like one or two teachers knew what we were talking about!
it was fun! me and my twin sister and a friend got the one ring (from a book mark!) and hung it from our cell phones out of our pockests and only 4 people knew what it was!
Pretty sad really,
My mosy loved character is, of course,
GANDALF!!!!!!
this is my 200th post!!!! YAY!

I've already elaborated on my Frodo's birthday doings in other threadds, so I won't do so again here. But it sounds like you had a lot of fun!
I love Gandalf, as I do all LOTR characters. He actually has a pretty close relationship with Frodo (my favorite character), which I think a lot of people overlook. It's very sweet though. Almost like a grandfather and grandson. I love the scene in FOTR when he and Gandalf are in the carrt together. Golden, that's what that scene is.
