yeah. I think Tolkien should've written a whole book about Arwen and Aragorn. such a sweet couple... ok, stop it. back to the point. but we have nothing to complain about Tolkien did an incredible job writing the book and PJ in brining it alive on screen. fabulous.
ps. I have this strange desire/obsession to watch the movies bit by bit time after time. I just can't stop it!

I agree with Rosswen that it was bittersweet. Actually, it was more bitter than sweet though - I cried when I finished and felt hollow like I had a great loss... I felt like I wished that there was another book after that!! Even Tolkien said that the book wasn't lon enough.
I also was really sad when I found out that Eowyn and Faramir fell in love and married - garrr stupid Farimir for stealing Eowyn's heart...
Anyway, back on topic...

Yeah. I felt like it was the end of everything. LIke everything was suddenly gone. Frodo was gone, the party tree (:D) was gone, Saruman was gone, the elves would leave, the third age ended. and the only thing that can comfort me then is to watch/read it all over again. yeah.

I believe that the way Tolkein chose to end the Trilogy was heart wretchingly sad. I was in buckets at the movies and im ashamed to say i havent actually gotten around to reading the book yet

however, the thought of Frodo going out of his way to save the Shire...and then the fact he states
"We set out to save The Shire Sam....But not for me..." Makes it even more sad! I was absolutley devistated that he left Middle-Earth. I love Frodo Baggins!
However, there's always the encouraging thought that what Frodo did has lead to his eternal peace and immortality. That i am glad about, but i miss the thought of him not being there which is strange but i can't help it

When I had first watched the movies, I felt nothing didn't know anything about it but then after watching it again and again something grew inside me a love for everthing Tolkien had ever made up. So then I decided to read the books I took me a full 9 months of reading but then when I finished I was head over heels in love with every character every place every thing and I minute I closed the book I flet like it had all been taken away from me and I could never get it back. But if I had not finished the book I think I would be feeling worse. Now I cry more then 5 times through out the movies and cry more than 10 when I read the books. Sorry about the long speech but thats what I feel.

It is so sad. What would describe my feelings after finishing the book is exactly what WarriorPrincess said before, hollow. Yeah that would be the word, everything was so empty. And tell you the truth there were at least a couple of tears in the eyes of this man. Most of all I was sad for Sam who lost his best friend after having shared so much together.

"Well, I'm back." the perfect ending for a book. i cried my eyes out and could not sleep at all. i don't think Tolkien could have put a better ending. I could not believe that it was already over when i finished. i wanted it to go on forever. (tear)
