Hey everyone, just had a quick read through the discussion.
*opens an umbrella in order to avoid raining balrogs as she prepares her arguments to join the discussion*

As many people I've always believed (and still do!) that the orcs are mutated elves from the First Age as the paragraph from the Silmarillion says. Elu Thingol, if you can find sources that suggests other things please bring them forth! It would be interesting to see because the common opinion goes with the elves version but since Tolkien did spend some good many years on developing the World of Arda he could have changed it later.

Concerning the immortality of orcs.
No orcs wouldn't die from a broken heart since they are heartless and doesn't know any kind of love - poor creatures.

It says that orcs breed like the Children of Ilúvatar and also female elves were captured in the First Age. Probably it's like the dwarves, there are few of the female orcs and they must be hard to tell apart.

Hey, I just had a though, Orcs can't be created of Men because in the time that Melkor breeded the Orcs, Men weren't around yet. I'm I right or wrong?

Oh wow - thanks for all that information! Female orcs? I find that part the most unusual . . . I can't really imagine it - probably a good thing anyway. :bye2:

Hooray for Rider(Melkor, Morgoth, whatever)!!!!! *Whistles, summoning an army of countless thousands of Warg Riders and Uruk-hai* Sorry, but I really dislike Elves. *Dodges a falling Balrog* Charge!

The Complete Guide To Middle-earth says that there are not female Orcs, that they were spawned like it was shown in the movies--very cool.
