Interesting thoughts Melda & Linwe. When you've your family at stake, I think women would do different things than they would normally do.
About #4. Getting pregnant.
A woman that is prosecuted for being a witch will not be hanged or burned or tortured if she is found to be pregnant. They believed that even though the woman deserves death, the child does not, so the woman that is pregnant can be jailed for 9 months until she gives birth. This technique can be useful if the hysteria of the witch trials passes within 9 months.

1) Get out of town!
I would probably go with this one. Pack up all my stuff and leave town. It would seem the most logical, I would probably go to the more 'business' centered towns, like Jamestown(if i am remembering correctly) or somewhere like that.
2) Accuse someone else.
No, definately not, i would not let someone else take the fall for my cowardice
3) Quick, get pregnant!
Hmmm... maybe? but what would that do? they would still come after after the baby.
4) Confess, even if you aren't guilty.
Ermm... and die? Probably not.
5) Plead that you're innocent and stand trial.
Yes, but I would most certainly get prosecuted unless I have a heck of a good story! Lol.
6) Refuse to be tried and face immediate consequences.
No! That's way to bold and I am too young to die
Good topic! makes you think!!

then i would DEFINATELY pick this one! even if it means i would separated from my family for 9 months, i would be safe for the time being as well as my family. also, im sure the hysteria would pass and people would forgive and forget after almost a year. i cant even imagine how horrible it must have been for the women who were accused and their families.

Call me a coward, but if you asked me that question, I would probablly run away and get out of town with my family. *sigh* I know. But something inside me is morally telling me that I would stand trial...but they were just so unfair those days, all the trials, it's insane! They could find any reason to find me guilty of beign a witch *recalls scene in Holy Grail *
So I would probablly run away *sigh* I know....

I imagine, the youngest you could marry was 12-13. So if you've been married for ten years, you'd be at least 22. Though young, a woman of that age, being married and mother after ten years --- would be wise beyond her years.

^But at the same time it's very interesting. Women today are so different than the women of older society. We dress differently, think differenly, and even talk differently, yet we still have so much in common.
1) Get out of town!
My number one choice would be this one. Of course I'd find a way to take my dear husband and children along too as any young and loyal wife/mother would do.
2) Accuse someone else.
Never! Even if it meant I could be "pardoned" I wouldn't do it. For all I know, it could be the death of a very close friend of even relative.
3) Quick, get pregnant!
Well... if this were in modern times I'd say no for sure. I'm terribly afraid to give birth at all. However if I've already managed to have several other children beforehand, having one more wouldn't harm anything... and it'd postpone accusations for 9 months.
4) Confess, even if you aren't guilty.
Never! to this one too. I'd never confess to something I didn't do. It wouldn't be right at all.
5) Plead that you're innocent and stand trial.
Another possible choice. It's a 50/50 chance of being tried as innocent, and it might be a risk to take. But then again.. there's always that chance of being found guilty instead.
6) Refuse to be tried and face immediate consequences.
Even if I refused to tried, but said I was innocent, I doubt the people of the community would believe me at all. I'd probably be hanged on the spot anyway.
By the way Kit, I'm glad this structured discussion is making you happy. I find it quite refreshing and fun to discuss after so many bland conversations that usually revolved around everyone's day and school. [Not that I don't want to know how everyone's day went of course. I do care for you ladies. ]

*eyes wide* THE CRUCIBLE. Anyway, here's what I would do, generally:
5) Plead that you're innocent and stand trial.
Not necessarily that exactly, but I would stand by my innocence and stick stubbornly to that, never confessing and probably facing death. -.-

hey there!! im surprised i havent found this place earlier. anyway, i'd like to join. and my answer to the current topic would be: i'd try and go to trial and all but i highly doubt that would work. i'd probably run away then with my family but mostlikely they'd catch me but if my family were to get harmed i'd leave them and come back a few months later...disguised as my previoius husband's new wife............ok. this sounds really wierd...

1) Get out of town!
Yeah this is probably the best option and the easiest. But back in the day I would have to leave alone because if anyone was accused of any crime, I doubt even a husband would be willing to be near me.. actually.. noo.. if I left without a word, they would probably punish my family for not reporting it, so yeah I suppose I would have to bring my family, which is good for me
2) Accuse someone else.
No matter what I was accused of, whether or not I did it, I would NEVER accuse someone else of it unless I knew for a fact that they were guilty. It's wrong enough that someone accused me wrongly but if I go and do it to someone entirely innocent, then I could never live myself down. I would know how bad it is to be wrongly accused of a crime, so I could never do it to anyone.
3) Quick, get pregnant!
No way.. *cough* I have always disliked children.. and postponing it won't do me any good either.
4) Confess, even if you aren't guilty.
No! That's just confessing to something that I didn't do.. it's unfair to myself and I could never do it.
5) Plead that you're innocent and stand trial.
If running away wasn't an option, then this is what I would do.. it's telling the truth and if you still get accused that way, at least your own conscience is clear.
6) Refuse to be tried and face immediate consequences.
Stupid thing to do.. it would just make you look even guiltier.

1) Get out of town!
Hmmmm... I would do that only if I could take my whole family with me. I wouldn't leave them behind. If there was a way all of us could leave, than I would do so.
2) Accuse someone else.
No! I would not do that, not unless they actually were guilty. Just because I was falsely accused doesn't mean that I would have to bring someone else down with me.
3) Quick, get pregnant!
That probably would not be my answer to the problem. First off, that might not work. Second off, it would probably just hold off punishment for a little while... which wouldn't do much good.
4) Confess, even if you aren't guilty.
No, because that would be lying. Also, I don't think I could bear having people think forever that I was guilty.
5) Plead that you're innocent and stand trial.
If running away was not an option, than this was what I would do. I'd stand trial and just trust that God would work things out.
6) Refuse to be tried and face immediate consequences
Oh no, forget that! That wouldn't be very effective at all...
