Blend Tutorial by Raven Sparrow
To start off, I'm going to be making a banner, 700x150.
http://i10.tinypic.com/2l8gq4o.jpg
First, I choose a picture. It can be anything, but for sake of blending 'ease', I'm going to be using the same picture two different ways. After opening the picture I chose, a promo of Jack Sparrow from AWE, I then pasted it into the banner, and positioned it like so.

Now, I take the same picture I just used, paste it into the graphic again, then I went to Layer >> Transform >> Rotate 90 Degrees CCW(counterclockwise).
http://i18.tinypic.com/2zri9ur.jpg
Simple so far, I know.
Next, I choose the eraser tool, a little pink square(shown below), and I chose the brush Circle Fuzzy(19).

You can choose any brush you wish, really, but for ease of blending, I prefer to use this brush. Now comes the fun part. Naturally, you take the eraser tool and erase the overlapping parts of the second picture you posted(shown completed below). Obviously, it takes quite a bit of practice to erase backgrounds without erasing actual parts of the picture.

And now, you can anchor your second picture down onto the banner(Layer >> Anchor Layer). Tada! There's your blending. Yes, it still looks a little..rough..but if necessary, you could blur the edge of Jack's hat a bit, to make it blend in even more. To do that, you select the teardrop shaped tool, and make sure it is set to blur before you even think of blending. From here, you could try and add other effects to your banner, such as textures, color layers, brushes, etc. And that's it! 'Finished' product shown below.

Texture Tutorial by Elven Archer
To use textures, get your texture, [past it on top of your blend] and then go to Dialogs>Layers, a window should come up showing you all your layers. Then on the little scroll down bar thing, you can go to one of these
Normal (what your normal image looks like)
Dissolve (well it kind of pixelates your image)
Multiply (I turns your image about the color of your texture)
Divide (the opposite of multiply, it should turn your image the opposite color of your texture)
Screen (This targets darker colors and will get rid of any black or dark colors, leaving the lighter colors, and slightly blending them over the image)
Overlay (It blends the texture over the image)
Dodge (makes your texture very bright)
Burn (makes your texture very dark)
Hard light (it blends your texture into yor image, usually leaving alot of the color though)
Soft light (exactly the same as overlay
Grain extract (it barely blends your texture, and inverts the colors)
Grain merge (opposite of grain extract, it should barely blend your texture to the image)
Difference (well it just kind of makes a big mess of color)
Addition (uses white and the color of your texture)
Subtraction (uses black and the opposite color of your texture)
Darken only (this targets the light colors of your texture, getting rid of all the light colors, and leaving the dark colors. Then the lighter colors of you picture, will have the coloring on them, and the darker parts won't have much coloring)
Lighten only (this targets the darker colors of your texture, getting rid of all the dark colors, and leaving the light colors. Then the darker colors of your picture will have coloring on them and the lighter parts won't have much coloring)
Hue (uses a kind of desturated(black and white) effect but also incorperates the color of your texture)
Saturation (a big jumble of colors)
Color (uses the color of your texture)
Value(usually uses the color of you texture, plus some other colors...)
Downloading Fonts Tutorial- Elven Archer
Well you would have to install them onto your computer. A good site for downloading fonts is www.dafont.com . Once you find one you like, to the very right of it should be a place to download it for your windows or mac computer, click you computer type then save it to "My Documents", it should save in a Winzip file. Then just go to your winzip file, click on the font and push "Extract" Then go to My Computer>Local Disk>Windows>Fonts and you should be done! [Also, remember to hit refresh on your text tool!]

I'll join!
I used to use GIMP all the time, for like three years or so, but in the last month I've started to use Photoshop some, too.

I would love it. I have no aptitude for figuring out what things do without any hints.
