Ooh this is soo interesting I love to talk about these things!
1) Get out of town!
Sounds like a very reasonable choice to me.. But I would only do that when I could take everyone I love with me, so I can build up a new life in an other town, but with the same people around me.
2) Accuse someone else.
I would never do that, because that would be also an unjust accuse.. I mean, I don't like it to be threatened that way so I wouldn't even think of threaten someone else that way.
3) Quick, get pregnant!
That is more reasonable, I mean you have already five children, so one more or less doesn't matter at all, and if that can save you from being burned, that would be a wonderful solution.
4) Confess, even if you aren't guilty.
Never!! They accuse me of something I haven't done, so why on earth would I confess. Than I will die anyway, so I'd rather try to stay alive than kill myself that way.
5) Plead that you're innocent and stand trial.
This is the best one for me, because I think I would be convinced by my own innocence, and would have faith in God to let it all end good.
6) Refuse to be tried and face immediate consequences.
No, I would try to do something anyway to stay alive, so I couldn't just sit and wait for something to happen...[/b]

Kit is encouraging the gentlewomen to be more constructive, so she gives us a scenario, and we give a response.
This is still the current one I believe:

Here's some NEW questions to discuss, feel free to mix and compare answers, inquire on how you would feel, what you would do --- would it be the best option, worst option?
This is a slightly more important and deep topic, please re-read your post each time so that you do not offend anyone, draw attention or speak harshly about a certain aspect of the subject.
You are a woman in 1692, living in Salem, Massachusetts. You are married to a farmer who leads a stable life. You and your husband have been married for ten years, have four children, three girls, one boy. You, your husband, and your four children go to church every Sunday. Suddenly, you are accused of witchcraft, and there is talk that the deputy governor is going around with warrants arresting women who are accused.
What do you do?
1) Get out of town! 2) Accuse someone else. 3) Quick, get pregnant! 4) Confess, even if you aren't guilty. 5) Plead that you're innocent and stand trial. 6) Refuse to be tried and face immediate consequences.
Discuss away!

But which one would you do, consider your position?

I would get out of town, change my name and cut my hair and start a new life somewhere else.

Without your children? Your husband? How far are you willing to go?

I would leave the children, husband and I might go a few miles - basically far enough so that no one would know who I was and what my past was like. I'd start over completely.

Now the majority of us have either decided to run away OR to get pregnant.
Pros & Cons: Running Away vs. Pregnancy
Pros to running away: So you decide to run away ----- you can sneak out in the middle of the night, walk for miles and miles until you reach a quaint town. Go by a new name and proclaim that our family had died in a landslide while traveling from Jamestown. In most likeliness, they would accept you.
Cons to running away: How successful will you be to sneaking out of the town? With people so weary of their surroundings, someone ought to notice something going bump in the night. And news back in the late 1600's, usually take a little more than 3 days for news to reach from town to town. The town that you've finally come to is bound to hear news of the witch craft and will question your sudden appearance.
Pros to getting Pregnant: It'll definitely hold off the trial if you do get pregnant, the hysteria may die down in 9 months, the people getting their wits together along with their senses, they may find good reason to release you from your trial/conviction.
Cons to getting Pregnant: It'd be mighty hard to get pregnant in a few days notice. The fertility of women back then would have been tremendous but I'm quite sure if you were to be convicted right after your menstrual cycle ended, you're kinda out of luck.
So do we all agree that being a woman living in Salem, Massachussetts, in 1692 would totally suck? Yes.

Yes I think we all do .
Personally I don't know what I would do. Being the headstrong person I am I would be indignant and try my best to defend my self be saying over and over again " I am not a Witch in any way shape or form" and reciting Bible verses over and over again.

Meh. Witchkraft was one of the most pointless things the humanity has ever come up with. And believe or not, it had lot to do w/ religion.. Hating and killing women who were too smart for the present times and could -lyk, omg- help other women have abortions, they helped those that were ill... so not cool, oh? Let's burn them

hm... the 1600s don't seem like a good time to live... What I would do is tell the truth! I'd plead that I was innocent, pray for my life, sing hyms, and recite verces for all I was worth. Getting pregnant: thats not even an option for me, as are accusing someone else and running away! I am no cowerd!
