He's not my favorite either, but I love that song and "Life Ain't Always Beautiful"
I think I'll put those lyrics in my sig...

Rest of Club: "Oh we're splendid! How about you?"
Amoniel: "I'm doing quite all right."
Kit: "Moving on."
[ x0x ] In the 1920's, women started dressing wildly, and drinking, and partying, and wearing less clothing after the end of World War I when all the men came home. These women who defied the standards of 'respectable women' were called Flappers. EDIT: With more info. When the men were fighting the war, women were made head of businesses, and led campaigns to lead the war-effort -- basically doing the jobs of men in their absence. After the men were home, these women were fired from their jobs to make available jobs for men looking for life-earnings and were forced to go back to domestic jobs.
[01] Why do you think these women felt the need to rebel?
[02] Do you relate to these women?
[03] Would you, if you were in the 1920's, be a Flapper?

[1]Obviously, if the men were back after a time of being gone, wouldn't you go wild to?
[2] Well, yes and no. Mostly no as I don't really understand this topic too well.
[3] Probably not.

Well, if that happened to me I'd become a party girl too! Probably in a heartbeat!

[1] They learned independence during the war. Before it, the women were either High Society ladies or housewives, then they suddenly became important workes in factories etc. I suppose they wanted to show their husbands that they can be as free as men.
[2] Well, yeah- I love being independent.
[3] I think yes, but nowadays I couldn't really imagine myself being one

welcome to the club! We have lots of fun here, and often partiipate in talking about issues that women face now, and have faced, other than that were pretty random!!
Because they felt like it, there were very few men around, and so they were like teenagers without parents, they just could.
Yes, im constantly rebelling against everyone...not always in such a big way but i do rebel.
Heck yes.

oo i just learned about this!
[1] probably from boredom. they just wanted to have fun and keep entertained while their husbands were away.
[2] well, yeah, i always like to have a good time. I do dress modestly normally, but when i go partying i dress differently i geuss. Usually it's jeans and a cute shirt for me, but for homecoming i wore rolled Soffee shorts, knee high socks and a thin strap tank top. it was a theme, and i wore a crown, but yeah, i can relate to them.
[3]probably. I mean they weren't all that bad, they just had a good time, i geuss.

Glad I could help with the hang gliding.
That is a little bit freaky, I agree.
Eep! You guys like Gary Allan?? Thats awesome! I didnt think anyone else on here liked country music
1. they wanted there to be a change, and didnt want to be traditional anymore.
2. in a way, i dont really like to follow the crowd.
3. i probably wouldnt do everything that they did, but i definatly wouldnt want to stay like all the traditional women.
Haha this is funny I was actually just learning about this a few weeks ago in history

[01] I think that after they had an idea what everything was like, they didn't want to just give it up again. They got used to their new roles, and weren't ready to let go.
[02] Mmmmmm, minorly, but not really. I'm a rebel, but in a different way.
[03] No. Don't even have to think about that one. I'm very conservative, and most of my beliefs would be considered by most to be 'old fashioned.' However, sometimes old fashioned is good. I'm not saying that I would, at this time period, want to go back to having the women in the role they played during the Victorian era; but at that point in time I wouldn't have been one of the people pushing change and the limits.

1) maybe they noticed they could also survive without their men (they had gone to war and their women could still handle the situation, although it was an unknown und difficult situation) and didn't want to be pushed back "behind the stove"
2) well, I guess if I had lived there maybe I had done the same, but I'm not quite sure...
3)that would depend on my situation (and on my husband). I think women with an understanding husband didn't need to be Flappers, but if they had a very traditional husband, maybe they had to rebel....

[01] Why do you think these women felt the need to rebel?
I think they felt the need to rebel because they had too much responsibility and didn't want to deal with it. They wanted to break free from their responsibility and be independent.
[02] Do you relate to these women?
I don't really relate to them because I feel that I do what I want (with certain limitations) and I don't really feel trapped or pressured.
[03] Would you, if you were in the 1920's, be a Flapper?
I'm not relally sure what I would have done.
