Well as long as your happy Kit, I'm glad. I could tell that the off topicness of this club was stressing you slightly, and now that I'm here I can see what you mean. ;)

My top 5 female characters from books are:

Jo (Little Women)
Emma (Emma)
Marianne (Sense and Sensibility)
Elizabeth (Pride and Prejudice)
Elinor (Sense and Sensibility)

I detail why I like them in a little while.

EDIT: As you can probably tell I like Jane Austen heroines. :P I like the fact that usually in a Jane Austen novel you have to female leads, who are completely opposite. You often find there is a quiet and calm character - Jane from P&P, Elinor from S&S and Jane from Emma and a strong, spirited character - Lizzie from P&P, Marianne from S&S and Emma fro Emma.

Jo from Little Women, is a very high spirited person, who unlike the Jane Austen heroines doesn't have to worry about behaving like a dignified lady in society, so she is more of a tom boy.

I can identify with both the quietness and the spritedness. I like the spirited ladies as they don't let people walk over them, but also the quiet ones still win their man at the end of the day. :-)

I honestly can't choose my favourites. I read way too many books. But Elizabeth in Pride and Prejudice might just be one of them...

Elizabeth is definitely a figure a lot of girls can relate to, because she's a strong woman but she has her faults and she's still human. Jane Austen did a great job depicting her.

I LOVE Susan from Narnia. I can relate to her so much and I have sympathy for her. She's logical, she thinks logically and she can be very serious but gentle.

This is a great topic! In no particular order, here it comes:
From books:
Dara (a book I am currently writing)
Dara is very strong and courageous, and she doesn't back down easily. She's very smart and cunning.
Alanna (In the Hand of the Goddess Series)
Alanna is very resourceful, and very, very witty.
Anne (Anne of Green Gables)
Anne is hilarious, if not niave at times, but is all-around creative.
Emily (Emily of New Moon)
She's a lot like me!
Elizabeth (Pride and Prejudice)
Elizabeth is smart, and she knows how to keep Mr. Darcy guessing.
Susan (CON)
Susan is very helpful.

From movies:
Elizabeth Swann (POTC)
Elizabeth is resourceful, hilarious, a quick-learner and classy.
Arwen Undomiel (LOTR)
Arwen is really pretty and appears confident.
Eowyn (LOTR)
Eowyn is tough. She's strong and independant.
Jessica (Magical Legend of the Leprechauns)
Jessica is really sweet and still confident.
Kathleen (" ")
Kathleen's even stronger and tries to be independant but falls in love anyway ^_^
Galadriel (LOTR)
Galadriel is incredibly wise, powerful and is still level-minded and loving.

And that who is who I like and that is why I like them ^_^

I like Eowyn, because she's not the typical woman. She's tough and knows how to handle a sword, but she's still a real woman (not like a man in a woman's body)

and I like Maria Magdalena, because she knows how to handle the situation, when Jesus comes to visit her and her sister, she knows what is important and I love that fact, because we often forget what is important, and it's just this 'woman-thing', her sister is doing things, women have to do, but she kinda forgets the things other ppl expect her to do and she does what she thinks is important.

And there's another character I like. It's Toru Honda from "Fruits Basket".
She is always there for her friends, although she has problems, too. She works hard but doesn't forget to 'live', if you know what I mean...

I love Eowyn, shes so fragile, even though she doesent let people see it, and when she was hurt by Aragorn rejecting her(in the movie) i felt so bad for her(and hated Aragorn for a split second). But she came out in the end, and i was really proud of her!

Hmm...Mary Magdeline was a prostitute that Jesus saved from those who were going to stone her. There were Mary and Martha and their brother Lazerus (sp?). I think that's who you mean. Anyway, yes I would agree with what you said.

Here I almost forgot Rosie! Rosie's so happy all the time.

Movies:
Elizabeth Swann (she's strong and brave, I adore her!)
Eowyn (she's a strong woman, and even if she's hurt deeply, she doesn't let anyone see it.)

A particular movie character I love is Tessa Quayle, if any of you have seen the Constant Gardener, I recommend it. She's not really in the movie a lot as a present-day thing, but she's in a flashbacks and you can just see her character and her determination to help the Africans who have wound up with AIDs/HIV. She really is an inspiration.
