*Cough* Back on topic *uncough*
Oh, yes, Joan of Arc, she was a fascinating figurehead. I also am in awe of her strength and preserverance in the face of danger and fighting for what she believes in. When I was in France, I saw a statue of her, it was pretty nifty! Yay!

*coughs* Okay, this topic is dying.
I have a question: What are your opinions of the average girl today? Is she more intelligent, confident, etc. then past generations? Or do patterns of life never change, and are gender roles usually about the same? ('About' used loosely)
Remember, not neccesarily, how it should be, but how the situation currently is, based on your observations.

I have admired Joan of Arc ever since I could know who some one was. How she led all these men into battle, but never lost being a woman. I treasure a medal of her on my scapular.

I don't know her that well... but my faint vague idea is that she was a French woman who fought in the French revolution (was it?) and later on she was crucified as a witch.

There's a lot of information about Joan of Arc located here: http://joan-of-arc.org/joanofarc_short_biography.html
I warn you right now, it's very long, supposedly it's the "condensed" version....
Ooh, I think RA posed an excellent question up above, about modern girls if they are more independant or not. I believe they are, I think girls in the modern age are pursuiing more professions in the "man's field" than they did 50 years ago. Many are pursuinng fields other than "stay at home moms" (Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with Stay at Home moms, because my mom was a 'stay at home' mom)
However, we musn't forget the women during the World Wars I and II that took on many of the men's jobs while they were away fighting.

A wonderful question indeed RA!
I think women are a lot more confident about their own abilities to do things, because the strict men and women professions do not really excist any more.. Now there are also man who stay home with the children, while their wife is out to work, and by doing that, I think we obtained a lot more freedom..
(How hard to say this in English.. )

Nice topic, RA!
Well, I think nowadays women are more independent and self-confident than in the past. Today a woman doesn't totally depend on her husband anymore and usually doesn't have such enourmous problems when their relationship breakes up, as most of them have a job and earn their own money.
Besides, I think that girls have much better chances conerning education today, which is great. In the past mostly only the daughters of rich families could attend higher schools or universities, which has luckliy changed through the years.
I think it's great that a woman can today study whatever she wants and can (at least theoretically) pick every job she likes. However, it still not fair that women in leading positions like managers or so are still paid less than their male colleagues.

Yeah. I think that sometimes we need to be reminded that we're not as strong as guys, and that it's okay to let someone open the door for you.

I don't like the image of a modern woman.. or girl... you have to be a fashion freak, over confident, have a crush on Brad Pitt and be drop dead popular. Me? Not.
[there are more stereotypes, yes.. ]

I do feel as if women are sometimes overlooked because of their gender. We do hear of those legendary women who have achieve these great accomplishments but we always hear them working EXTREMELY hard for it. Men don't have to work as hard for that kind of recognition.

of course! women were oppresed ever since...a long time ago! why? becuase we had boobs!*cough* anyways, guys can breeze through things and get money and awards and stuff, but women have to break down hundreds of walls to even get a little recognition.
